new to yjs need some help

im getting a 93 yj it has like 11'' lift soa ,shackles, and lifted springs to much for the 37s if you ask me id like to drop it like 4'' but i dont want to lose the flex it has tons. more than my long armed zj, so how do i lower it down with out losing all the flex. also can someone explain axlewrap a bit for me and how to avoid it. c/a's traction bars?? thanks im new to yjs so flame on.

pictures would help but lets assume you have a Body lift. get rid of it or go with a shorter one. also we can assume that you have a pretty good arch to the leaf packs so you should be able to go with less arch - more like an oem and this will actually provide better flex than an arched spring.

a SOA on flat packs with a 1" body lift should be enough to clear 37's otherwise trim some body panels or go with a slight shackle lift (3/8"-5/8 inch is ideal).

what axles are under that thing?

it has no body lift and doesnt ride bad at all. i cant post pics,YET!!!

Does it have the shackle reversal in the front? You can check this by looking at the front of the leafs. If they are bolted to a solid mount on or near the front bumber you have a shackle reversal, if they are connected through a shackle in the front you do not. The reason for the question is that a shackle reversal will lift the front a couple of inches. If you have one keep it.

What kind of suspension do you have in the rear? Does the fixed end of the spring mount directly to the frame or is it some sort of 1/4 eliptical setup or ???

Aside from these type of lifts that require some fabrication, the most common ways that YJ are lifted are through the SOA (about 5.5" in itself), lift spring packs with more arch (More arch = less flex, generally), longer shackles (the poor man lift), and body lifts. If you have a body lift that should be the first thing to go because it is the least effective. The only reason I have a 1" body lift was to clear my Atlas II without a lot of cutting on the floor panel. If you're still too high check out the shackles. If they are realy long replace them with shorter ones. And if you are still too high, replace the spring packs with about a 1.5 to 2" lift spring. Rubicon Express makes a spring pack that is designed for SOA'ed YJs. It is a 1.5" lift.

Just buy some lower springs..... Rubicon Express makes some SOA springs or you can get some custom one's... Most people will run a 2" lift spring and that should give you 7"+- of lift and 37's should run fine with that... Bump stop will be needed... You drive shaft’s will most likely need to be shortened…

You thought you'd get flamed.... Anyways I'm running 13" of lift on my YJ. SOA, 4" leafs, 1" shackles, 3" body lift. I rub 36s, switched to 35s this time, still rub those. I'm running TJ flares, so I have cut the fenders some.

This should help explain spring wrap some.

If its already SOA, hopefully it should have a wrap bar already on the rear. The front springs are normally fine the way they are, but they will wrap some, normally not enough to hurt them though. (Of course I did trash a set of front springs a few months ago.... But in a hard brake situation)

If you have 13" of lift and rub 36's... You need to cut the fenders more

I run 1.5" SOA with slightly longer shackles, no body lift, copious amounts of fender cutting, 38" Swampers and the tires seldom ever rub.

How wide are your axles from wms to wms? If they are stock, it can be pretty scary. If you have wider axles, leave it up there. Then you don't have to start refabbing pinion angles, steering geometry.

I'm pretty sure you didn't see the pictures in the folder called SOA, anyways, more recent ones are in the Front44 folder.

Here is the most recent picture I have, with the new tires on it (They're 35s).
