XJ + 8.8" = Brake problem

Do you guys know of any brand that addapts the XJ rear brake system to an 8.8" rear axle ??? or should i just go to a shop and have them make me some lines ?????

Make the lines yourself. I got an extended brake line from RE and plumbed the Stainless Steel down to the pumpkin. From there I went with the cheapo brake lines from Auto Zone out to the stock rubber brake lines meant for the 8.8. Total I had less than what you'd get charged for labor at any decent shop.

When I did mine I reused the jeep rubber line with the t-fitting and reused the explorer rubber lines to the disc. $3 for 2 hard lines from advanced, bent them myself and it works fine. Ford and Jeep use the same size line and brake fittings.

Everything for me hooked right up, no modifications were necessary, I did have to run a new hard like across the axle since I wound up relocating where the brake hoses attach to the axle.

Make sure you didn't put the calipers on backwards.


It's a very common issue, your bleeder valves must be at the top of the caliper.


I had a hydraulic shop build me a custom line for between the chassis and the axle, it is threaded to function as an adapter.

don't spend a bunch of money buying parts from MORE, I don't know off hand, but I bet its about $100 seeing as most of their 8.8 stuff is over priced. For the ebrakes do this: take the stock cables and cut around half of the spring off of the axle end. Take the exposed part of the cable and wrap it around the ebrake lever on the backing plate. Use a 3/16 cable clamp to secure the cable back to itself. This works just fine on my jeep as well as several other jeeps I know of. Here is a halfway decent pic of mine:
