CB Antenna Mount on Spare tire Rack?

Hello there. I am trying to mount my cb antenna to my spare tire rack and have few quesitions. I bought a thru fitting from radio shack that enables me to mount the cb antenna on the top of it and then I screw the cb antenna wire into the bottom. Is it ok that this thru fitting touches the metal spare tire rack? Or is supposed to be mounted on plastic? Also, Any other better ideas of how to mount and cb antenna on a jeep?
Thanks for any help.
Harold

That will work. Although you may want to add a spring between the antenna and mount. You want metal-to-metal contact between the antenna mount & rack, then between the rack & body/frame. Your antenna is 1/4 wave and the vehicle itself is used to make the other 1/4 wave. Any plastic or rubber between them would just work as an insulator. Make sure you tune the antenna after you have it mounted and install the radio.

I would suggest a little time spent reading/researching the basic's on how CB's work, installation, & SWR. There is a tone of excellent information available from Firestik.
