4.0 bolt on power - Whats out there?

Before I drop $5k or 6k on an engine swap, perhaps I should look in to some bolt on power.
I konw there is a supercharge option but at $4500 I'd rather put in a v8.
So what are my bolt on options with the 4 liter engine in my TJ?

Most of this stuff is nothing but smoke & mirrors.. don't waste your money on TB, chips, exhaust systems, etc. Lots of $$ for little results. Information on Jeep including axles and tire size would help... I suspect changing factory gears to something much lower will give you all the power you want unless your desire is to race this Jeep.

BTW, search is your friend.......

x2.

If you want V8 power, no amount of bolt-on mods will satisfy you, just go ahead and swap in the V8. But you definately don't need it, the 4.0 is plenty of engine for the average street/trail TJ. Just gear it right.

Stroke it, or go with a V8, those would be your two best options. There is tons of info on stroking out there; from budget strokers that cost little more than a rebuild, to balanced blocks putting out the same kind of power you would expect out of a mild V8. Lots of info about engine swaps as well. If you are looking for a little more power, do your plugs, wires, air filter, and maybe exhaust. Anything more and you are throwing money into the wind...

Yep

Turbo
Super Charger
Stroker
A cam is a tradeoff. You will probably lose some bottom end. Not worth it IMO.

Everything else is a waste of money.

I think people tend to think exhaust does something, simply because they spent all that money and they'd really like to think it does something (because they spent all that money). Plus louder cars seem to be faster for some reason. Go figure.

Definitely agree that an exhaust working to factory specs or slightly better is all you really need, I only mentioned doing the exhaust as a possibility in the case that an old exhaust system was being too restrictive.
