It should be as easy as pulling the out the drive slugs and installing locking hubs. It should be an internal hub style front axle?

For a cheap junkyard swap some Dana/Spicer locking hubs off a 70s Ford F150 should work.

The only special tools you kinda need is a good set of internal and external snap ring pliers. It can be done with some flat head screwdrivers but that might lead to flying metal rings and swearing.

On a similar note, what would be involved to put locking hubs on a D41 rear axle?

I think you would have to convert to 19 spline side gears to use the herm stuff.

If I remember right you can install 19-spline D44 side gears in the D41 carrier.

I did mine years ago, also a 74. It was quick and easy an took maybe an hour.

The important thing to remember it to save the old parts. Keeping one drive slug and cap makes a quick and easy trail spare if you blow up a locking hub.
