Moab Fall 2018

I realize I don't have a Willys but it is an old Jeep. Just throwing this out there.
I am planning to go to Moab 9/30/18 - 10/6/18. I am not sure where I am staying yet but looking at ACT Campground (room). They have beds, shared bathrooms and shared kitchen. My wife actually wants to go so definitely not going to tent camp for a week. I have a tentative list of trails but not sure I will have enough time or if my Jeep can make them all. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Trails:
Hells Revenge
Metal Masher
Seven Mile Rim
Wipe Out Hill
Poison Spider Mesa
Cliff Hanger
Golden Spike ?
Kane Creek Canyon
Fins n Things
Moab Rim

It would be great to meet some of the folks on this board and wheel with some cool old rigs.

Not sure if I can make it or not, but I'll put it on my calendar and see if I can keep it clear. :-)

I'm just south of San Jose, you planning on driving it there? or towing? I'd most likely be driving.

Hope you can make it. I'm too old to drive it that far. I pretty much flat tow it to most trail rides now. Plan is to leave Sat and arrive in Moab Sun, something like 16 hours driving.

Then I'll probably flat tow as well. Always nice to caravan if the opportunity is there

I might be down for a short trip. It's close for me.
It will still be HOT then though.

If you have any questions about moab trails and stuff let me know.

I'll put it on the calendar. It's always fun to cruise around Moab with other old Jeeps.

I checked historical weather data and it is all over the place in late Sep, early Oct. Low 90's to high 60's with mid 40's at night.
I definitely have questions about trails and will hit you up as it gets closer.

If I can get my Willys wagon back together this sounds like a lot of fun.

Too bad, would like to meet you and see your rig. Going to make reservations this week for a place to stay. Just sold my house and bought another so the next couple of weeks will be crazy!

We live pretty close together, we should make a run down to Hollister hills, or if there are any other offloading areas around here!

Moving to Morgan Hill in a few weeks so even closer. Have you ever hit any trails near Shaver Lake? Some of my absolute favorite trail to wheel and only 3 or so hours away.

I'm in Morgan Hill a lot since I have friends there. It's a pretty nice town, I was going to move there as well, but couldn't find anything within my price range that had the amount of property that I wanted (I wanted 1/4 acre or more)

No, I haven't been wheeling anywhere out here, have just been busy with the house (first house). All I've done is drive around exploring all the farm roads and such. Finally driving the Willys around now too

I'd be up for some trails for sure! If they are anything hardcore rocks, I'd probably have to take the TJ instead of the Willys, I don't have adequate skid plates on the Willys yet. 2 oil pans exposed, haha!

I'll be out there the following week for the NAXJA hosted Cherokee 35th Anniversary event. Its crazy to think that there are XJ's out there that qualify for collector plates.

I may be going to Deer Valley in Sept. Its one of my favorite trails. Not super hardcore but definitely fun. I'll keep you updated.

I emailed ACT Campground. The rooms for 4 people are up to $79 per night but that still seems like a good deal. Shared bathroom and kitchen with coolers in the room. Calling in a day or 2.

I'd be up for that! If I can keep it to just a weekend, September should be ok. November and early December are probably going to be light for me at work, so I'll be looking for a longer trip or two then as well.

Would you do it in a leaf spring vehicle with no skid plates? Last time I was wheeling the Willys was Cougar Buttes "hammer down" trail, and It got a bit beat up, luckly no oil pan ripped Harder than that, and I'll take the TJ

Sorry to say me either, I haven't made much progress on it at all. So maybe next year.

On the bright side though, I got a 700r4/NP208 for my Willys to replace the SM465/NP205 that's in it now. That will make it a whole lot easier for me to drive with 2 pedals instead of 3.

I am in the middle of moving and went to take my Jeep to the new house. Tried to start it, no gas. Went and got 5 gallons and tried again. Still no gas in the carb. Pulled the fuel line and cranked it, no fuel.
I just ordered a new fuel pump and hope that is the culprit. It was parked in my Dad's garage for a while and he said there was fuel on his floor under where the fuel pump is . I'm think the weep hole was telling me something.
I did not make reservations yet but will after I get the new pump in and make sure it runs.
