Yeah, its shaved, I call it a 13 bolt since thats all it has. WB run about 89" sitting normal...was shooting for 90" when I built the frame, but the front springs settled more than I thought.

No problem on posting your willys stuff here. All is OK. Personally I would rather see more trucks and Wagons, But the whole point of this thread is to stirr up enough attention so that we get our own section and can properly seperate our builds, projects, meets....
So post it up and make this thread a monster so .... PIRATE GIVES WILLYS THEIR OWN SECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

220 miles there, 220 miles back. Ran up to Pismo beach to go camping, dritbiking, and wheeling on the dunes. Ran great! Definitely felt like I was pulling a Midnight with all of the against the clock work for the trip. I trashed my garage to get it done, so cleaning up the pile of tools and scrap metal is a must this week. Was still working on little things the night before. Had taken the Willys out for a highway shakedown and noticed a little too much bump steer for a 220 mile trip, so I had to fab up a steering stabilizer, and that was 100% improvement. Cruises great at 60mph now, but still think I'll be adding a second one tho. Only had four little problems the entire trip. All easy to fix! * Started to overheat twice. Once on the way there and once on the way back... in the same place, but up the opposite side of a 10% grade. Was hoping the little old radiator I had in there would pull through, but what I had always expected was true: it's a little too old and under cooled for the big motor in there. On the purchase list: nice big aluminum 4 core radiator. My electric fan worked awesome tho... 10 minutes with the car off and the fan on cooled the engine and radiator right down! * Front wheel drive rail on my 205 transfer case froze (or jammed). I only have 2hi and 2lo, but airing down to 10psi was pretty good for the dunes. Only got stuck once, and actually completely buried my 36" super swamper!!! It was a sight for sure! Finally got to see the articulation of the axles tho - really really capable! Took two trucks to pull me out. * Somehow one of the front shock mounting bolts vibrated loose then off... or I sheared the thing off (I did jump the truck off a dune ![]() * There is an EVIL squeak coming from the back tailgate. Every time I stopped I tried something different to silence it and nothing worked 100%. I now have an eternal enemy and will be doing my best to kill the thing! Oh and I got 10mpg on the drive up. Brought some carb tuning tools and did some more tuning out on the beach. Got 12.4 mpg on the drive back home. There is still a little more room for improvement in adjusting the carb. I've got a Holley 4150 Double pumper on there. I think I can squeeze out about 13.5mpg... which ain't too bad for an aerodynamic brick! Also tossed an air matress in the cargo area (i don't have rear seats yet) and slept in it for the two nights I was out. Was awesome! Never had such good sleep on a camping trip before. Well - that's the update. Still a ton of work to go, but I made the deadline for the trip and didn't cut any corners! Now it's just sitting back and doing some of the fun stuff at my leisure. EDIT: Here's a pic on the dunes, GREAT way to shake down a rig first time offroad. ![]() Last edited by BigWillys62; 08-11-2009 at 11:53 AM. |

Some cool jeeps for sure.
Here is my project. It is a 48' Willys CJ2A now with a omix ada M38 body kit. I am running a 2000 4.8L chevy LR4 with a SM465, Dana 18, Dana 44 rear and Narrow track Dana 30 front. I boxed the frame and used Rubicon express 4.5" lift YJ springs. I am running 34x10.50" Swamper LTBs. It has been a fun project but I have quite a bit to do yet. I have a more lengthy build up thread on EarlyCJ5 Forum. http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60125 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Greg |

This was a while back but thought I would post it up for fun.
Well Some more photos of my Wagon on the Trail. Next time I will be sure to put a little more throttle when attempting something like this....and have a front drive line. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ahaha I'm going to make it....well maybe not. ![]() I ended up driving my buddies Wrangler the back way around and tugging myself through from the front and we continued on until my engine spat a coolant drain plug that ended the trip. Had to call my tow rig to take it home, Sad part is I found out that I had a bolt in my tool box to plug the whole ![]() Last edited by Willys 4x4; 08-11-2009 at 04:09 AM. |
