The current Range Rover V6 and V8 diesel engines come from Ford.

As Ford no longer own Land Rover, I don't know if this V6 is what is rumoured as an option for the new Defender, or whether it will be based on the new Jaguar Land Rover designed Igenium engine, which is intended to be for 4, 5, and 6 cylinder variants.

There was a rumour a year or so back of the same V6 3.0 diesel landrover uses going into a Ford for the US market.
It may be as simple as once one cracks certification and approval they all follow!
Landrover USA details here: http://www.landroverusa.com/our-stor...el-engine.html

It's the same SDV6 in 600Nm and 190kW rating as the rest of the world.

Landrover appear to have a long standing policy of keeping the Landrovers slower than the Range Rovers. I'd also expect now they have seperated out the Discovery and Defender brands that the Defender brand will be kept slower and less powerful than the Discovery.

I can't see the current SDV6 diesel going into a production defender. As well as the ownership issues John mentioned, I'd expect to see 4 and maybe 5 cylinders in the new Defender as fewer cylinders means lower fuel consumption and better range.

The V6 was developed between Ford and Peugeot/Citroen.
It been in various Peugeot/Citroen models, along with Jaguar Land rover vehicles, and the Ford Territory in Australia.
The 3 litre version seems to be exclusively used in Land Rover vehicles, whilst the TDV8 is exclusively Range Rovers in all forms at present.
