headlights... i'm try'n to remember where the hell we stored them. i know for a fact we never used them. i went through the second or third A1 class, and then reported to a ramp full of the old 70's pigs. a retro mix of IR and jeeplike lights in a big hole in the front of the hull. and a hydraulic turret. everything they taught me in that school was worthless, i ended up relearning it a year later...
Haha! That's pretty much how I remember it. We were actually stopped and I had the emergency brake on because one of the tracks up ahead was checking to see if they busted a coolant clamp or something. This was also the only time I've ever had my headlight (only installed one of the headlights) on in the field, because we were heading back to camp and getting a lot of oncoming military traffic from those leaving camp. We'd been training and driving most the night, so I was pretty tired. I saw the guy way up ahead with his lights on slowly making his way past the other tracks. Closed my eyes for a bit, looked up and he was still aways out but heading right towards us. Sure enough he kept getting closer and it was almost like he spead up till about 15ft out when he locked them up. With the ebrake on, the track didn't move at all. He's lucky the track is shaped how it is, otherwise he would have been in a world of hurt.
I saw this dude 10 min before he hit us...the sun was peeking over the horizon it was daylight and a column of AAV's were ceeping through the desert. We stopped ...I was bringing up the rear and this dud just kept coming....I thought...."no"..."this dude must see us".....he got closer.....closer.....closer....I came over the intercom...."Brace yourselves!" (I was in the TC) and like 10-15 feet out he locked his brakes up and kinda slid sideways and hit us.......we didnt even feel it! I jumped out and saw hime climb out the passenge side !! apparently he barrowed the car from his buddy!!
Glad to hear he is doing well. I was just thinking about it more with my foggy memory and remembered that although he was my section leader, he was only on our pig that day of that pic, because his pig was broken down and was being towed. So being the section leader, he had hopped over to our pig, leaving his crew to deal with the busted vehicle. I remember thinking I was lucky to have him on my pig for that accident, because he was sitting right behind me and saw that it was not my fault at all. In fact I remember making fun of me because I flinched when the car hit us. Haha!
i remember that pic... most awesomest military picture thread? i thought it was staged, even gave you a yatyas... never in a million years would of thought that was baga's pig. he's doing really well. off to email him now.
Wow! How's he doing? Is he still in or retired now? Tell him Cpl Stover says "hi". If he doesn't remember my name, tell him I was the one who was driving his track when some guy ran head on into his track while we were sitting in the middle of the desert. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...r27/img006.jpg Thanks for the link to your album, I'm going through them now. Oh how I wish I had access to some of those pics when he was my section leader. :)
