2001 Montero Sport

Hey all, I am new to Pirate and to owning a Mitsubishi. The Montero Sport that I have has 218k on but it is in incredible shape. My question is where can I get a rear "lunch-box" locker for this truck? The only things that I want to do to this truck are a nice set of MT's and a rear locker. I am actually very surprised at how low geared these vehicles are stock and how well they go in the woods. Having a front IFS setup, it doesn't seem wise to lock up the front. Any recommendations on what to get? Only products that I have seen are ARB air lockers. Way too much money for me.

The only option other than ARB is a factory air locker from a Montero SR, AFAIK. If you haven't already, check out 4x4wire.com. It's where the cool mitsu guys hang out, much info there.

Why is that? What difference does it make with it being IFS? Mitsubishi way overbuilt these things, you will be hard pressed to find better right out the box. If'n you can find the SR model from the earlier Montero's it will basically be a bolt in, with the only thing to do is fabricate an air pump mount and wiring it in.

Upon further inspection under my truck, I definitely agree with you on the strength of the front axle being tougher than I thought. I think Aussie makes a locker for the front for a good price.
