|Marty, SoCal||The tight pushrods were probably due to the lifters being full with oil, once you rotated the engine, they bled down so the pushrod would then spin easier.|

Personally, I doubt it, but anything is possible.
I had a 4.0 head that was so warped it took 20 thou to get it flat, and it went back together without issue, no noises etc.
You could however find out relatively easily and cheaply with an adjustable pushrod.
Install and adjust it to correct lash, then pull it and compare the length to factory specs.

yeah my cheapness got the best of me, that's what I did. I've still got a clatter, all the pushrods looked good, so did the arms, just those bent bridges.
here's a weird question I have. since this motor was apart and supposedly rebuilt, is it possible that they surfaced the head, thus making it shorter, putting too much preload on the lifters? and possibly weakening the spring inside the lifter? once I reinstalled the pushrods, they were tight until I rotated the motor over a few times, then they spin like they are supposed to.

Whoever tightened them down last didn't hold the bridges square while they torqued the bolts holding them to the head,
As the final torque is reached on the bolt, it tends to make the bridge twist unless it's held square.
You should be able to untwist the bridges, make sure you torque them to the proper spec of only 21 Ft/Lbs.

bent rocker arm bridges?
got a 4.0 with a clatter, it goes away when I bring the rpms (and oil pressure up) pulled the valve cover and found multiple bent rocker arm bridges, and missaligned rockers, what caused this? I losened them on the compression stroke, and I was able to rotate the pushrods, so no tension on the rockers.. anyone have any suggestions? going to replace them, but I wanna know what caused this.. Thanks folks!
