He did engineer and build the least ghetto gooseneck to bumper pull adapter Iíve ever seen in order to pull a car trailer loaded down with quads with a party ex-school bus. We will have to see if my retarded ass can remember how to post pictures

I read your jeep build and then clicked your signature link because it looked interesting. very pleased to see you followed through with it over all the years. it really is stupid that people would give you hate over building this. its got a great to the roots vibe and using part of the decking from an older destroyer was fantastic. could we get some shots of the flooring? lastly its always exciting to see a local build. Haven't touched my truck... But I did touch a ton of others.
Went to the Power Wagon Rally in Iowa last work... BEST TIME EVER! Hung out with W_A_Watson_II and Matt Brown (forget your user name) and it was awesome!
Great trucks! Great food! Great Wheeling! It was awesome!
The Allison comes out this week and gets sent out to the guru who is helping me out. Stoked to get this thing finished and it WILL BE AT THE RALLY NEXT YEAR!
So.. the 4 door truck, was driven to Iowa from California. Has a Cummins Clone 4bt (China clone he says) and was converted to 4 doors. Running an NV4500.
Silver truck has a stock 230 flat head and just had a synchro 420 swapped in and boosted brake kit.
The school bus... yea... Hellcat Hemi, plus some cam work, plus some tuning... She NASTY.

Loosing confidence in a transmission is allot like a girl find around on you, it's always in the back of your mind.
However there really is no reason that trans can't be built to handle what you're doing with 💯% reliability.
It's not a bad transmission you're just getting a education on them 😉.

Its hard to turn down the offer on this next rebuild and I am pretty sure that my issues mostly all stem from the stupid early models not having the hardened thrust bearings as this particular failure seems to be the primary mode of death for the early 5 speeds. In the first one, the bearings were not addressed and now running a stock one, of the same year model, I'm not surprised... Whats that definition of Insanity... same thing over and over again expecting different results... well, at least this time it'll be a full rebuild and address the non-hardened bearing problems.
I hauled it up to my parents place for the weekend and made a short drive with it just so that they, my brother and his wife, etc could see it.
Had some quick video footage snagged on the brief little drive.

But as a die hard manual fan and with some friends in the medical profession we can probably get good money for one of those pee-makers and I would love to see your fabricated clutch pedal.

|Elwenil||Tearing down both and comparing them is a smart move. If they both have similar failures, it could indicate something else is causing them, or a weak point in the design as you mentioned before.|

Thanks guys. I am just really bummed at this point, and more tapped for cash than I've ever been with all this other stuff going on.
I talked with some friends, and despite how cool a big manual box would be, I think I will try my cards at the "3rd times the charm" theory on this fawking Allison.
Evidently, most of the '01 to '03 versions of these bastards have a KNOWN issue with the hardness and durability of the torrington bearings, mainly T3 and T5... As in the races weren't hardened. In both installs of these transmissions (both 2001 year models) I at first over-filled the damn things enough that I was getting some foam in the fluid. I drained the fluid level down and even added a sight tube for the second one so that I could keep track of the levels.
The sight tube doesn't show any aeration or cavitation, however, there is possibly a chance that I trashed those soft bearings enough in the first few miles that they have just been slowly wearing and allowing the chatter of a set of planetary gears. The noise is only evident in 4th and 5th. I think it is the rear most planetary set due to the way the clutch sets work on these things.
The first transmssion was assisted in its failure with the obvious bad converter, I mean that thing was trashed from the get go. Maybe that contamination triggered the bearing failure.
I cleaned out the cooler and lines and all before each time between the installs. This time around I am just replacing it all.
A rebuilt transmission is looking like $3500 from a shop.
I bought the book, am going to study, and a few gear head friends are all about digging into this thing. We plan on tearing down the first failed one to see what all went down. Then use that to compare damaged inside of this second one.
It appears that the hard parts for these trash cans aren't that expensive and that a DIY rebuild is actually somewhat affordable, if you do it right. I'm going to try my hand at it I guess and throw about another $1k at it in this "learning process".
If this fails... I am going to sell a kidney, buy a G56, and be done with this automatic bullshit.
