but if you can measure the width of the motor from the center of the crank pulley bolt to the out side of the alternator that would be very helpful as I need to fit it between the rails

according to Bill
– 20.5" – length of block
– 25-1/4" – from front of harmonic balancer to rear edge of block
at 25" long the entire motor will still be behind my shock package

Just an FYI, the alternator bracket will need some slight clearancing to make a T/C pump fit because the one that goes in there is similar but not 100% exact. and you also need to make sure the alternator doesnt get into the shocks because it sticks out a lot to the side. I'll get you a measurement if you want, I have on on my engine right now.
14" from crank CL vertically to the alternator CL, the alternators widest point is 17" horizontally from the crank CL. 14" up and 17" out from the crank CL.

L92 and LS3 are 6.2L, L76 is 6.0L and I think theres a few more but I'm not positive off the top of my head. They are all aluminum blocks too. They have the 88mm throttle body and are DBW, you would have to swap that out if you wanted but it isnt too big if a deal.
One thing to think about that I saw you post in the vendor thread is that the C6 belt track and accessories pretty much limit you to the T/C style PS pump. You would need to go to the truck belt track to make enough room for a bigger PS pump in front of the engine, if you have room on the sides then you mgiht be able to fit a larger pump off the side of the head but it would be tight nomatter what you do. I'm not positive but Im pretty sure that the ls1's belt track is about 18mm forward of the C6 vette belt track and allows the use of the N pump which is like a super sized T/C pump. The new truck belt track is 40mm farther forward than the C6 vette belt track and will be very easy to mount accessories where you want because it leaves you with plenty of room off the front of the block.

basically the LS2 is the same as the LS6 except the displacement. a lot of stuff from the LS6 was carried over directly to the LS2 like the famous 243 casting heads.
honestly if you want the most bang for your buck and are spending some coin then you want to go to the new rectangular port stuff and stay away from the cathedral port stuff. An L92, L76, LY6(I think, I'd have to double check) LS3 will get you into a 6.0L (LY6) or 6.2L displacement. the 4.0" bore on the 6.0L and bigger allows you to run the rectangular port heads and intake and they also have bigger valves that cant run on the smaller bores. if you buy anything smaller than a 6.0" displacement with a 4.000" bore you are pretty much handcuffing yourself for "cheap" big HP add ons. L92 heads are less than 700/pr, add a cam and tuning and you have 500hp.
I have a 6.2L L92 with the car (L76) intake and it has cam phasing and I'll run cam from mast motorsports and it should be good for 480 ft-lbs and 530 hp in pretty much stock trim except a cam and tuning.

Obviously the 1st thing is the size difference...346ci vs. 360ci or for the left handed 5.7 vs. 6.0. Bore size is 4.00 on the LS2 I believe, and the LS1 is 3.89?? The intake manifold is different, the throttle body is drive by wire vs. cable. Cam sensor is on the back of the block on the LS2 vs on the front of the block in the LS1. The LS2 in stock configuration suffers from extreme heat soak issues which lead to retarded timing and lower power output. This is solved with some tuning.
There's alot more, but those are the basic things.

can somebody point me to a list of what the differences are between a LS1 and an LS2 ?
