SCOTTS_4X just remember the more you cut the tires up, and the skinnier wheel you run, the more the tread is going to crown out. I run 38.5x16's that are cut on 15x10's. the tread crowns up a LOT. I have to run them at 14psi on the street to get them to lay down right, just something to think about.

SeanP better for on road? 37 MTRs on 15x8 rims. Seriously.

I would go for the wider rim and bigger contact patch for 14.50 SXs, grooved and siped.

attachcurrie What would have better on-road manners? No tow rig yet.

SeanP 8 inch will pull the beads in and stiffen the sidewalls. There are two trains of thought as to whether you lose beads easier on narrow rims vs wide. Your contact patch will be smaller on the 8" vs the 10inch

attachcurrie Yea the tires I have are 38.5x14.5x15. What would be the difference in running a 8 inch vs. 10 inch.

I'll be runnin' mud and on the road way more than rocks. Mild (by this forums standards) trails mostly. All we got around here is rocky mud or muddy rocks.

I doubt I'll need to air down much below 10 psi. I went with 8s instead of 10s because of the overall width and backspacing. Am I stuck with 38x12.5 TSLs?

SeanP well, first off it doesn't matter on the height of the tire so much as the width. 14.5 wide SX's will be a little stiff on the 8" rims, you'd be better on 10". 12.5's would be perfect. Also if you are looking at 16.5" wheels, a bunch of folks (including myself) are going with recentered hummer beadlocks for aroun 170-190 a piece.

attachcurrie To my knowledge you can, it's my plans, and from reading 15x8 will hold a bead better.

Can ya run 38.5s on 8 inch wheels? On the street? Without beadlocks?

I wanna know 'cause I'd rather have them than 38s. They are way undersized.

BTW, I picked up a set of 15x8 with 3.75" bs from Summit for 27.95 and free shipping last month.

US Wheel Series 70's can be had for as little as 27.95, IIRC.

Do you mean wheels?

Try Summit..they sell 4.25 and 2.75 bs I believe.
