wilez5150 after 10 years of being for sale with no one interested the limo got parted down for parts reuse and went to live in san diego. the rock buggy got parted down and went to live in Lucerne. the new wheeler plans are floating in the fog in my head but like mieser its not going to be a flat fender, after 50+ yrs of owning and hacking flatties i'm done. a pic of the temp replacement on the piolet rock trail that burned last week. 5.13, rear lock rite, 16 v 1600 4 spd auto with a 6.5 sami t case and A/C.

i have a matching set of locked/5.38 dana 44's with full alloys/ CTMs and 4 wheel disc brakes, 57"WMS/56"WMS looking for a new home, no shipping

wilez5150 well the kid and his dad were out of school for summer break so the willys came back for some luv. finisher brake lines, fuel system got it fired and drove it. I filled and burped the steering system I thought. when I drove it it had no power assist. put more oil in it and the pump started smoking and the steering was froze. pump was screaming hot but the line was cool, so no flow. only ran for a few minutes. box is a waggy I think and the pump is off a chevy 292 I6. the large line(fitting) is hooked to the return line and the smaller one is the pressure line, i don't think they are backwards. i'm changing the pump out tomarrow for the original one off the 250 but its the same pump as the one on it. i'm thinking the pump is toast. i have a Phd in hillbilly redneckery and have hooked a lot of really odd shit up and made it work but this is a first for me

maybe i should check the hook up on one of my other trucks to be sure they aren't backwards before i change the pump

wilez5150 I grew up in a orange county tract house in the 50's &60's that looked just like 300 others. now I have my own personel wrecking yard in the desert

wilez5150 home made junk yard steering. grand power brake booster, xl clutch cylinder and swing pedals, shock towers off a super duty. slowly getting there

wilez5150 boom 1 custom 25 gal 55 willys gas tank. cost $160.00 took 8 hrs to make and install
11-07-2014 08:22 AM
wilez5150 the frame so far. ruff stuff spring hangers and shackles, stock yj springs. 69 jeepster axles, 4.11 posi f&r. the rest will be mostly stock. the front shackles were not my idea, I got overruled. besides its hard to mount a brake cylinder and a shackle in the same spot. there is provisions for a factory trac bar on this axle that I may use. the goal is to use stock later stuff so his grand kids can ride around with their grand kids

wilez5150 I know it don't look it but there is a 1000 hrs in that tub. off for mud an a fresh coat of OD green. I think the marines used this for a target when it was at 29 palms. I left the 50.cal hole in the floor under the machine gun mount. also the 2 45. holes in the drivers side floor. somebody must have been playing with their sidearm

wilez5150 I told the kid it was required to be video taped going vroom vroom in his first willys to get posted on pirate

1972Blazer That drivetrain combo should be a lot of fun. There are so many cool old school parts for the Chevy straight sixes.
08-17-2013 09:29 PM
wilez5150 the fire wall is now recessed back 6 1/2" for lots of clearance between the clutch hub and the rad. somebody fixed a few small holes in the floor with fiberglass and while they were at it coated the whole drivers/passenger floor with resin I hate prepping shitty metal for welding
08-17-2013 09:16 PM
wilez5150 I used the original tube trans cross member and a cross member from an early blazer to make the new one. the transfer case is way up in the frame and makes for one big ass hole to fill. its as high in the frame as I could go without raising the floor under the seats. the drive shaft/front axle and the oil pan are not even in the same zip code there is so much room
08-17-2013 09:04 PM
wilez5150 for the front axle we used a Cherokee center with 3/4 t chevy outers. some ruff stuff disc brake adapters and we have 4 wheel disc. some NOS never used 15x8 8 lug wheels were donated to keep with the old school theme. slice the hell out of the fire wall and locate the engine. ruff in some mounts and on to the trans cross member. the 7 blade 19" chevy clutch fan should keep things nice and cool

46WILYZ About 13 years ago, I wrapped my large bosch grinder with a wire wheel on it up in my crotch with sweatpants on. It scared the shit out of me, but only had superficial trauma.

wilez5150 while we are at it we are teaching the kid shop safety with power tools

wilez5150 one of my club members and his son got me motivated to do something other than go on vacation and fawk off. your typical desert 54 willys wagon that has little rust and from the looks of it never off roaded. we started with the bare frame free of old spring hangers, and added a 3/16x2 strap the length of the bottom. boxed the frame in a few choice spots, new shackle mounts and about 10" of new frame in front for a 110" wb. in the shop we have a new 250cu.in. chevy i6, sm465/205. in stalled are a c&c 63.5" 14 bolt with 5.13 gears with disc brakes and a dana 44 64" front made up from waggy and 3/4 ton chevy stuff. we are shooting for a lo budjet bomb proof kids first wheeler. rock sliders. roll cage and bumpers will get added as we progress

wilez5150 move the seats back 4". thats a dana 300 in there with a 4 to 1 tera lo gear set. the 4.3 is coming out to be put in my pickup. the turbo 400 needs rebuilt, the adapter is toast, and the t case is toast. i have a 351 nearly finished with a c-6, not sure which doubler but not a 203, and i have a dodge 205 and 208 a chevy 205 and 208 and a ford dana 28 and 208 several 231's and a 38" rear drive shaft. so lots of room to play with. i was hoping to slam dunk a stock 300 in it to play at KOH but not to be. the hot rod gets dusted off for KOH, won't be the first time the 51 has done the hammers considering the 51 was one of the hammer trail pioneer rigs back in the late 80's early 90's

Rooney77 Well that sucks....I guess. What are your plans for leg room?

The 205 is a big heavy tcase with crappy gearing options. At one point I debated a 203/205 doubler but the weight and size were waaay too big. YMMV. Have you considered a d300?
