Propane .080 over is 2.6 liters now and it's fine as long as the head is not rotted in any way. You also need a head gasket with the larger bore made into it.

I'm running .040 over (1mm) so I know you can get rebuild parts for less. I wanna say .020 (0.5mm) were available also but my bore wouldn't clean at 20

But could a guy make that Lexus work with what they have now (drivetrain/running gear) for the difference. Sometimes its cheaper in the long run to use what you have.

NOODLES I think rebuild kits start at 60 over anyways correct? So 80 would be only 2 times over. I wouldn't worry about it. But whatever you do, use a new crank. It seems the machined rebuilt ones do not last long.

Aisin $700 for 4 pistons. I can buy a running driving Lexus LS400 for that much.

redneckguy0404 I just got my 20/22r back from machine work. 80 over with wiseco K509M94 pistons and should be around 10.6:1. I paid $728 for the pistons, machine shop price. I think summit has them for just over 500. being EFI the high compression may pose some issues for you so may look into propane. that's where im heading at least.

84Toyotakrawler Yea A 3.4 would outperform my 22re for sure. like Stubs said my pistons were expensive I think in the 500 range if i remember right. I have around 3000 in my motor. You can pick up a used 3.4 for under 1000 bucks. I like my motor a lot has great power and has been reliable but If i personally did it again i would swap to another motor maybe even a 3rz

gnob Youre never going to out torque the 3.4 with a 22RE. (PERIOD).

No way you'll get 190 hp out of a 22rx w/o spending way more than a 3.4 swap would cost.

Mr Stubs Pistons are going to be in the $600 range.

This is a very important question. Is your engine going to be carbed or EFI? And if it's EFI is it a stock or stand alone ignition?

BazookaBoy Was aiming for 9.8:1 ... Or maybe a touch higher... hoping to go as high as 91 octane will allow.

I messaged LC and he said they can custom make pistons for whatever bore/comp I want, but he didnt answer me on the cost.

I need to find out which block i have first though... 5 years ago the engine took a crap and i swapped the block to one a friend had. No idea what it originally came from. Ill have to go look.

84Toyotakrawler my motor is .80 over Has roughly 5000 miles on it driving to and from rubicon/fordyce (4 hours each way) always been good to me! If i had to do it over again with all the money it ended up costing me(forged pistons LC Head Arp studs cam, springs etc...) I would swap a 3.4 or something like that in.

iwannabemro My crawler 22re short block is a kragen reman from 8 years. It .70 over still runs like a top.

Provience Worst case scenario you end up finding a thin spot and boring into he water jacket, a sleeve and rebore can fix that no problem and a competent shop should be able to do it for you no problem.

What ratio are you going for?

Mr Stubs I know of one for sure and have looked into it as well.
I do know that you will need to pay attention to the head. We all know that old heads can be problematic due to electrolysis. Be prepared to buy a new head if yours is compromised. That big of a bore pushes tolerances to the max.

Has anyone done this? Was it reliable? I'm in need of a rebuild, and want a compression bump. The higher comp pistons can only be had in an .080 over bore.
