Spent Fri and Sat at Adventure Offroad Park in South Pittsburg, TN. Didnt get many pics because I was leading both days. Also had some carnage from AOP. Driver front stub shaft went "pop", I was climbing a slab, lost forward momentum, started sliding down and the driver front hooked on an undercut. Don't have a pic of the incident. Tossing in a spare and saving pennies for RCVs.

In an effort to come up with a onboard trash can, I found an old military butt pack on the shelf in my garage. It somehow accomplished everything I was shooting for in a trash containment system. I wanted it to hang off the tailgate somehow...check, and I also wanted to be able to use Kroger bags as liners....check. still working on final mounting but I'm happy with how the garbage management apparatus is turning out.

Successful first trip. Not many pics. No breakage. Need to raise my fuel vent hose and put some sort of sleeve on my tailgate chains.
Off the trailer, back at the house.

Top came up well. Was the first sewing job I had done outside of school too!
I had trouble of it flapping at highway speeds though as didn't have the amount of tensioners that you have. This was in 1989 so had no samples to look at online.

Got the weight, weighed in at 4340 lbs. Heavier than I thought, but nothing to remove to lighten it. Could re-do the skids out of aluminum but that ain't happening anytime soon.
Whipped up a bikini top today. Teepee canvas from Big Duck Canvas, poly webbing, and some backpack buckles. Taught myself how to sew for this project. Really happy with the final product.

I made my first one back in the early 90's. I came across a guy who had a well used Toyota Jeep, and he built it in 1984 as I recall. They do work well. We did a lot of swaps with that stuff. I am still doing it.

The soul of the M38 is still there. Lol. Of the original M38, the cowl, the dash, tailgate, tailgate chains, and headlight buckets. Original willys parts from other models: grill from a 2a, windshield from a 3b, hood is 3a I think. The tub is all new sheetmetal bc the original tub was too crusty.

Lots of little loose ends coming together. I got the cb and antenna mounted and wired. Whipped up a fancy bracket for the antenna. Also got a cellular phone holder with a cage mount.
Made some floor mats from some 1/4" rubber mat from tractor supply. Hopefully the rubber helps with vibrations, sound and heat.
Once I got the hood mounted, there was a 3/8" gap between the hood and the top of the fender. Found some weatherstripping that clips onto the lip of the hood and has a bulb on the bottom. McMaster Carr for the win. When the hood is closed, the bulb is compressed and keeps water, dirt and dust out.
Next up, learn how to throw down with this bad mamma jamma.

|ToyotaJeep||That is good to know. I have built a few Toyota powered Jeeps before. What gear ratio? I would imagine that it weighs less than a truck so you should be fine. Also what curb weight?|

Test drive today. Up to operating temp, held at 185, good oil pressure, no explosions. Luckily a buddy warned me about the exhaust wrap, quite the smoke show. Also got the winch rope installed. Gonna check for leaks in the am. Really happy with the ground clearance and the approach angle for a leaf sprung jeep. Departure angle not so great, this girl got a thicc booty.

Wiring has been less than fun. Tried to test all of the circuits before install. I hope I never have to mess with the wiring ever again. Only thing left to wire is the turn signal switch. Here's some pics of the process, and the finished progress. There's not a whole lot of room under the dash of a Willys. 10lbs of something in a 5lb something something.
After wiring, I took my little man down to the creek to throw rocks and float some stick boats.

Im looking at one month before it needs to be on a trailler on its way to Tennessee. Wiring is going good, however, it's taking longer than expected. I thought wiring up the headlights would take about 2 hrs.....nope, more like 4. I'm trying to keep everything tidy, so I don't have to go back and clean stuff up. Headlights are working, both high and low beam. Parking lights work. Since that stuff works, it's safe to say that the headlight switch and dimmer both work. The Painless harness has been very nice to work with and the instructions actually help...who woulda thunk that? Next is taillights and then gauges. If the weather is nice Monday I'll put in some seat time.
