I was just there 3 weeks ago and was using my friend's phone on verizon making calls, making posts on here, checking dreamflows all up and down the trail. Hell, snapchat and instacram were even working...

7.3_6speed Like most people have said, AT&T works great for me.

plug ugly anyone ever try one of the cell phone antenna extenders up there?

erictylers1 Not getting an AT&T phone because it WORKS on the trail. I turn that Verizon ball and chain off from the time I unload until the tow back home.

plug ugly which phone?
10-06-2015 08:15 PM
Valon5150 I don't usually pay attention to my phone out there but I have good enough service with Verizon to be on interwebs at meadow lake and driveline hill. Haven't checked anywhere else

jeepyjca my buddy's Iphone 6S with Verizon was streaming music most of the lower half of the trail, (we cut out at committee) my regular Iphone 6 with Verizona had no service most of the bottom half of the trail.

RCKRATZ I had full coverage at WH3 during Trek with ATT

dirtyjed Verizon gets service if you have line of sight to Signal Peak. But sometimes will only let you text.
You can watch YouTube videos on how to make an electro-magnet at wh3 with att

plug ugly has anyone noticed any changes to reception? I know ATT still works, but my verizon iphone 4s doesnt get any reception along the trail. Im due for a new phone, and am considering swapping to ATT for this reason.

Tinman I can't be specific but there is a section of trail around the Carlisle mine that has 5 bars for Verizon. Text and voice. Another spot I can recommend but is a hike is the top of the granite hill on the uptrail side of water crossing #1. Quite a hike but works if you really have to get a text out. Not voice.

I agree with the comment about Meadow. Go up near the dam, stand on the big rock, on one foot with your other hand in the air facing NE and don't breath and you'll get reception...maybe.

randii Verizon has intermittent text coverage, but it is TOUGH to hold enough good signal to make voice work.

kdub0013 AT&T always works for me up there.

DEER TICK At&t is the only carrier that has coverage on the trail.

Blue Devil Toyota Agree on the AT&T thing. 4g most of the trail including Meadow Lake.

pepe 95% of the trail has ATT coverage. I used to have Verizon and I only found 2 spots at Meadow Lake that got signal, but move 10 ft and it's gone. I had sprint/nextel and it never got anything anywhere up there, but it's been 5 + years since I switched to ATT so that could have changed.

jethrodeg ATT works for me for most of the trail. Would be harder to name the spots I don't get signal vs the spots I do.

rockyota83 depends on your phone, and your carrier, on my phone with verizon i dont get signal any where on the trail(i actually like it and the phone gets turned off and left in the tow rig ), but my friends with at&t get reception at many different places through the trail, not every where obviously but too many places to list them all. im sure other users of the trail can add more info for you, the phone does come in handy though for getting spare parts.

Cell Reception..

I am looking to head up Fordyce in a few weeks, but will be on call and need to be able to answer the phone should it ring.

I know there is cell phone reception in the general area as I'm a regular there but I have honestly never had my phone turned on while on the actual trail.

Is there recpetion throughout the trail or only near the Indian Springs staging area?

Thank you for the answer if you know it.
