What a trip!
We all met up at Cisco grove around 6am. Found out rattlesnake road gate was closed so we had to go eagle lakes. In hindsight this was a blessing. Got on the trail a touch after 7. Smooth sailing until right before sunrise hill. One Toyota had to pull cable to make it up.
Scott in his jeep broke his e fan so he stayed back to fix that and ended up joining us at the first crossing.
Got back on it and a few took a wrong turn down the backside of sunrise hill towards hamburger hill. Chris Letteer ended up in a hole and broke his pass birf. Had to winch him back and then spin around. I hooked up to him and with Plenty of whoopow we got him back up the hill and he headed down to the first crossing for repairs.
Most stayed with Chris at the first crossing and me, Robert piwko, Jared Kilgore , aj and Carl Meyer left to go to the truck. Encountered a huge ice pit but smooth other than that. I pulled up to the truck about 11am.
We pulled the bumper and sat around and ate while we waited for Carl and Dave to show up with the keys to the truck. Scott showed up looking for a birf since the one we gave Chris was wrong. Soon after a few of the other JKs showed up, one with a broken rear panhard. We got that welded up. We got the Mazda started and spun around and made the trek back.
It was slow going at first. I pulled him solo most of the way to the first crossing. Traction was great. He had power to the wheels on and off and it helped. Jared went up ahead to go get the birf to chris to fix his rig and ended up flopping hard and then rolling on winch hill .5. We met up with all of them at the first crossing.
The jk rolled in right after, and the track bar had broken off again. Rewelded that and it lasted the rest of the trip.
Started the ascent up hamburger at dusk. Chris and Robert went first to feel it out. Scott was hooked to me, and me to the Mazda. Made it 100ft or so and it was icy and slick. Then the hard winching started. Slowly we made our way up. Robert moving up and winching. Then Scott winching up with both of us hammering down strapped together.
Sometime during all this Chris’ Toyota stopped working and wouldn’t start. So toward the top of hamburger I was dead pulling the Mazda and his Toyota. Numerous full throttle 3rd gear pulls and we made it. One last section the Mazda got wedged good. Scott went back just prior to help all the other rigs get up so it was just me and Robert.
I melted some wires and lost my fuel pump but thankfully was able to diagnose and fix it fast. We got back out of the spot with some double winching and luck. Coming up out of sunrise hill the Mazda lost power again and we were dead pulling him up a decent hill and it was slow going again. The crown in between the tracks was so tall he was just plowing snow.
Soon after we broke the tree saver we had hooked the frame rails of the Mazda and decided to drill and attach the hooks he brought. Little setback there and we were on our way again.
After this it was pretty smooth sailing. We rolled into eagle staging about 9pm tired, beat, and excited.
Everyone soon followed and we all were loaded and on the road about 10pm.
Thank you to all that showed up and helped in this endeavor. It was definitely a trip I won’t forget.

|NorCal_Chris||We got it out. Had another rig lose all power also. Lots of throttle and winching up hamburger hill. I was hooked to him the whole time it wasn’t as bad as I planned.|
