My brother has an '07 mercury Grand Marquis and loves it. He does very little in the way of maintenance, like almost none and beats the crap out of it. Only issues in 5 years and 100k were a coolant leak (I think it was the intake gasket), a set of brakes, a window regulator, and the ac quit working and he's too cheap to have it fixed. It's like doing 80mph in a lazy boy going down the highway. He never gets pulled over (he's a comedian in vegas and the cops just think it's an old person late for golf) or broken into either. I went from daily driving a 4x4 TJ to a Ford focus with blizzaks doing 100 miles a day in the mountains. So far I haven't regretted not having 4x4/ awd. It's actually much better than driving the jeep and I have to look down and make sure I'm not doing 75mph in the snow where I would have been white knuckling it at 45mph in the TJ. They are blowing out 2018's right now if you decide to go new. I got sick of working on junk to drive to work and decided my sanity was worth a car payment on something with a warranty to 125k. |

I might just do that. Wont help with the width but the kid that not forward facing wont be all up in my arm rest.  So I drove a Odyssey over the weekend by chance. Its a van I guess. Had 210K miles and seemed to still have good power. Whats the consensus on a Mazda 5? Are they as small as they look? |

RE: Carseats in an XJ If you remove the rear seat's back cushion, it makes the baby seats fit much better. The seat cover zips off and the foam just has a bit of spray glue holding it in place. Easy to do if you unbolt it first. Easy to undo once they grow out of the baby seats. This allows you to put car seats in without having to push the front seats way forward. |

We did a trip to Monterey last month with the MIL and I took out one of the 3rd row seats. We had plenty of room for 2 suitcases and a stroller along with 3 adults and 3 kids. They're fantastic vehicles and the AHC will amaze you at its ride quality. Issues with its durability are way overblown. The fluid has likely never been changed and when you finally do flush it the ride quality improves dramatically. |

I had a '99 tahoe as well as a '99 escalade. Both with the 5.7s. My commute is 36 miles of highway one way, every day. Neither of them ever got over 14.5 mpg over the 4 years of me driving them. They sure were nice to drive but the mileage made me sell them. |

And try to stay away from 2006+, or whenever they started adding cylinder deactivation. Seems to shorten the engine life in a big way (unless you're good about checking the oil level). Personally, I say forget fuel economy. There are more important things. I'd prefer a Tahoe or Suburban with 4x4 and a proper frame. |

If you can find one, a first-gen (circa 1995-on) GM minivan: - plastic body - will take 3 car seats in the middle row plus two more out back. - seats are individually removable and reconfigurable - power sliding door - bulletproof 3.8 GM fwd powertrain - factory air shocks with self-leveling out back - 22 mpg highway easy Prolly cost like $2K, if that. |

A used Volvo? Ha. Minivans are quite safe as well. I know nothing of the mechanical changes from year to year on minivans, but they check all of your want/need boxes, especially with 3 kids. |

Did the older Pre 07 3.2/3.5 Odessys have transmission issues like the cars do? If you're good with a minivan then get a minivan. If you want something safer and much nicer to ride in but will cost a little more to maintain get the Volvo XC90 with a 3.2 or T5 |
