The metal siding will go down to the ground and cover up the gap, but Im curious too how he's gonna insulate that.

DFW Rusty I am building my own house right now. Lots of friends and family pitching in at different times to help, but so far no contractors have been involved, just a lot of beer, brisket and cussing!
This house definitely shows I am a metal worker! Only wood in this house will be the finished floors and interior walls!

A buddy of mine working on my beams at where we work.

Same buddy and I built these embeds after hours.
20190927_063536 by dfwrusty, on Flickr

A bunch of friends and co-workers came over and helped me stand up the beams.
20191020_143547 by dfwrusty, on Flickr

Probably the one part we didn't get perfect was the roof, it's good, but definitely not perfect!

my 2 little helpers, or tool snatchers, which ever you want to call them(Olivia 4 & Toby 2). My oldest (12yo) could care less about what I am building right now.

Where I am at now, got the 6" tubing installed as the floor beams and now installing the purlins for joists.

squamch Went to the dentist yesterday. Said I have very healthy, well cared for teeth and gums, it's obvious I'm very diligent about brushing and flossing. And I am.
However, I'm booked on next Tuesday for a root canal and crown, then have 2 or 3 more root canals, and a couple normal fillings needed. Apparently I just have crappy teeth.
Glad my wife has benefits!

Local.hardware store changed prices recently.

Used to be a better price if buying a whole box. Now it's the same price per to buy one or a 100 count box...

Yeah, $28 for a box of washers that is under $10 anywhere else.

I know every branch of the military has their own honor guard for funerals. I figured they were basically all the same, basically the “Old Guard” for the different branches.

Last night I saw a news piece on the Marines “Body bearers” (Old Guard for Marines). All funeral details use eight casket bearers except for the Marine Body Bearers, they use six

:Respect:
You realize that six is the standard number of pallbearers, right?

total newb There is a veterans/service cemetary out by dixon ca and if irrc they had men from every branch as the detail. It was very nice and very sombering experiance.

Still thinking about it...
2011 Peterbilt 386 is getting the ISX rebuilt. It had a cracked head and 2 scored liners. So it got all new everything...about 20k worth. Had an issue with getting some of the parts and it delayed finishing about a week.

I suppose you all probably see old people that do just keep fixing their shit and they're still dding a 64 falcon they bought new or whatever
Different strokes. Between everyone trying to keep up with the jonses, theyve grown accustomed to a monthly payment.

The sub $5k "cash" market is flooded with vehicles. The cars dont rust/rot, junkyards are plentiful with parts, drives the market down and typically not worth fucking with trying to sell. Right now the 80s-early 90s are getting a resurgence in popularity. Majority of the late 90s vehicles have no value and stuck in limbo between classic and modern.

that's common around here too, guy I know took out a loan to buy a $14k 03 dodge with 300k miles, needing everything replaced (auto trans rebuild, tcase had been run dry, both axles were howling, ball joints loose, pissing oil everywhere...)

whereas my IDI f350 was $650, needing the same amount of work, but...

TireFryerSS San Antonio is an odd market. I always find better stuff in Houston and Dallas areas. But anything that is 70s-90's, 4x4 or not a run of the mill throw away car seems to just be up for sale for ridiculous prices. Like older dodge and ford diesels. Clapped out, but "cummins bro legendary powerstroke" and suddenly its priced higher than giraffe pussy.

When the cost of repairs are more than the vehicle. Not everyone is mechanically inclined, shady mechanics quote thousands, etc. EX: a rust free running and driving 2000 honda accord is only worth $1500. Tires, a/c, and a timing belt are $1500, it gets parked.

Meskins will drive absolute garbage with no insurance and play bumper cars until it runs no more. leave it on the side of the road and start over.
Oh I know the difference between asking price and actual selling price. Im just at the point I dont want to fucking deal with the games any more.

Is it just a "well hell I dun did rant it outta coolant and cracked the head" sorta deal?
I'm just so used to perfectly running stuff being totally unrepairable due to rot...
