Po' riggity We lease out tank from our supplier, because it was already set up that way by the previous owners. Tank lease is $85 a year. Current price is $2.28/gallon. That being said, we paid $2.65 when we bought the home last winter, and the tank was almost empty. the only thing the propane gets used for is cooking on the stove, as we use a pellet stove to heat the house. That being said, after talking with the propane company, they mentioned that the previous owners hadn't called for a fill in over 3 years.. So if my 250 gallon tank full lasts me 3 years, I'll be happy with that..

erictylers1 It just gets two anode bags that generate 850 to 1300 MV to repel corrosion, and need to be tested every year. It’s no big deal, just recently dug up 3 that we’re 20 years old and look brand new, and got reburied elsewhere. Retail on an AG 1000 is $2k new. With digging and burying burying and sand and a permit $4k is a legit number.

Craigslist is your friend for this, and call the small independents for a used one, either AG or UG. The ROI is better on the Above, just dig a new trench and move it out of view.

QUOTE=billdacat;44506680]Newbe to this propane thingy... I would like a buried tank; what is a reasonable size? Local propane company gave me a crazy figure on a buried 1000 gal tank. (~4K installed). The ROI on that bitch wouldn't be realized until long after I am dead. I think the current leased tank is maybe 400 gallons.

Need some fact checking; soil conditions are very corrosive in my area and buried tanks need special precautions (propane guy speak). Something about "tank termites". I am not throwing down the BS flag right now but will investigate. :-)[/QUOTE]

nate379 A customer pulled their tank not long ago, they were paying in the $5/gallon area for delivery. They decided to just buy a couple 100lb? (The ~5ft tall ones) and bring those to the gas station to get filled for nearly half the cost.

Propane is the most expensive way to heat in these parts. Fuel oil, wood or natural gas.

WILDWUN, call 49er, they are doing a July special at $1.25.
we were going to go with them but we always check with Signature Propane to see what they will do.
we bought the tank from them several years ago, I had them move it two years ago to get it farther from the house. they charged me about 275 for all the lines and labor (I dug the trench) to move it 50 feet.

so for .10 more we went with them again.

erictylers1 Cost is $.73 right now.

OWN YOUR TANK OWN YOUR TANK OWN YOUR TANK.

If you have enough close neighbors with COTs, get together in July/August and get enough gallons on a "group buy" to empty a bobtail (2750 Gallons), and call around and they will give the best price.

CHIEFWAHO I've seen a couple ads in the local newspaper (Southeast Kansas) for 97 & 98 cents a gallon.

I need to get with my provider and see if they will match it.
07-02-2019 01:57 PM
wheelerfreak I will get off my ass and call them to fill it late summer, we're at 50% still. I will probably be at or damn near 50% until September even if they don't stop by. The only thing running propane now is my water heater.

I filled up last in March I believe for $1.75/gal.

Edited after I found the receipt

So where you at and what are you paying?

own my own 500 gal tank, having it filled next week
1.35/Gal
Northern CA
last fill was 24 months ago, so less than $20/month for Propane usage
(mostly hot water and stove)

Made it through all last winter with out turning the heater on at all
burned 4 cords of firewood that cost me 5$ per cord for the tags

I have a little rehab house I'm selling, last winter was 400 gal propane for heat. Not too bad for a 1900' house in MT. I'm hoping I don't have fill it again.
