I'm pretty sure that my tripod is messed up.. and its on the short side.. I need a better one, just aint got the money for it.. they get really expensive..
I don't have mics yet, check out this thread I started a while back..
yes I would like the money to be able to do a 3-point trick anywhere.. I was sorta trying something for this video with 4 lights.. including the bright one on my camera.. it was sorta difficult to light him up, while not getting a bunch of glare off his mural..
thanx for all your comments..
oh and I was tempted to do some cartoon style animation to his mural.. But I didn't want to make the video look all kinds of silly..

You do know that you put on end on the ground and screw the other end to the camera, right?
Watched a few moments of the Twin Peaks vid. Did you pull your nub out or something?

I'll bite. Was a film major in school with an emphasis in editing.
First thing- your framing was pretty good. I liked that you jumped from a medium shot to a headshot during the interview. Look into the rule of thirds for lining up your subject in an interesting way. You had it happening for a little bit in your mid-shot and it looked really good.
Things to work on:
A big thing that stood out to me was your text. It's not the main focus of your video, the subject you are filming is. Your text needs to be there to give clear, easy to read information for the viewer and then go away. I wouldn't take up the whole screen with it. Also, animated text has its place, but if I were you I would keep a simple fade in/fade out for what you're doing, otherwise you're drawing your viewer's eye away from your subject.
Like everyone said, camera movement is no bueno, even if there's a little bit, people notice motion like that when everything else is static. I get that you may not have a budget for a tripod. That's cool, put the camera on a desk, or chair, or stack of books or whatever. When you're shooting a close up or headshot, camera motion is a problem.
Audio. Do you have access to mics? If you can, mic your subject. It will instantly sound way more professional without all the background noise. If you can't, work with what you got, but try to shoot somewhere quiet.
Lighting. Read up on 3 point lighting. I think you could have benefited from a backlight- It helps to give your subject more of a 3D appearance and makes them stand out from the background a bit more. Some people think you have to have professional color balanced lights and stands for quality 3 point lighting. They help, but you can still get many of the benefits from strategically places everyday lights found around a home or office.

Kick each of your film/video teachers in the nuts because they didn't teach you how to hold a camera or frame shit. And no, you don't need a tripod or gimble to have steady LEVEL shots. FFS. If you got shaky arms, at least carry around a monopod.

If you are going to interview someone, get a damn tripod.

1. My gut is telling me you get off on the attention you get here.
2. The video sucks. Totally uninterested in whatever the fuck that dude had to say.
3. I don't know how to fix it. Not my wheelhouse.
4. Go somewhere else if you're genuinely interested in how to make good videos. This is NOT the place that is going to offer you the best help. (Assuming point 1 is wrong.)
