bernz-o-matic is dry propane, unlike the shit you get in bulk that's got gasoline and other residuals in it
getting to the point that nothing in service is using it, so soon enough it's worthless
kind of funny, in '08 or so production of r-22 was ramped so damn high to deal with the coming panic buys that I was seeing it at $60 a 30lb can

funny this thread just bumped. been looking at a "new" toy car and was thinking if I buy something older and want the AC working, i've got to deal with the lack of R12 recharging PITA.
then the thought went to fawk it, I don't need AC. though having it has spoiled me

I wonder how much it is in Mexico? Can you buy there and bring it over? What's the concenquences for getting caught.
A local wholesaler was telling me that he has contractors tell him they have been putting 422b right on top of 22.

"As per the US Environmental Protection Agency, R22 refrigerant will become illegal in the United States on January 1, 2020. After that R22 refrigerant phase out date, R22 refrigerant can no longer be manufactured or imported into the US".
"Jan 1'st 2020. At this point, R22 will no longer be manufactured and cannot be used as a refrigerant in new air conditioning systems. R22 is being replaced by R-410A, a safer material which is the current, compliant standard refrigerant in air conditioning equipment".
"When did AC units stop using r22?
January 1, 2015: By this date there would be ban on the sale and use of R22. There is exception for certain cases, including the serving needs of the existing refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. January 1, 2020: By this date there would complete ban on the production and import of R22 refrigerant."

From what I am hearing the refrigerant manufacturers cut R-22 production by 43%, causing the price spike. Part of me thinks this is the GOVT stepping on the manufacturers to try and kill the dry R22 units still in production. The ban the manufacture of units that contain R22, but they found a loop hole in the law and started producing the units charges with nitrogen that are still R22. I bet the GOVT didn't like this and this may be there way of stepping on that market without actually changing the law.
The dry R22 market in AZ and CA is huge. We sold ALOT of them over the last year or so.

|Cue-Ball||R-22 through the roof??? You'd get much better energy savings by using R-30 in the attic.|

|cottonmouth||So the proposed phase out of r22 has been out for a while now. I've only sold/installed 2 r22 units in the last 5 years since I've known about it...... gotta love how everyone freaks out when the inevitable happens!!! And the price went up because the only r22 that is available from now on is recaptured and recycled gas.....|

No gas company is going to lay gas line for 2 miles to serve maybe 1 or 2 customers.
Unless of course they nationalize the utilities. :tinfoil:

|Cuda K5||I believe this phase out also includes propane. Hank hill is in deep shit|
|01-24-2012 11:05 PM|
|Cuda K5||Yes, the phase out stages are as that link states, but there is nothing for 2012. I wonder if the dry 22 units drove up the production of 22 requireing them to put a cap on production this year....|

I did a quick 2 second search on google for "r-22".
First result was from the EPA. Not making this shit up.
Fuck the government.
