I don't believe we could function without them. I strongly believe if they performed at levels typically associated with anyone in the private sector earning a similar wage, we could certainly function with far fewer of them. Especially if they worked under fear of termination for sloth, waste, and inefficiency.

I have made three trips over there in the last year. I was surprised at how many of the working class people that told me that they are sick of the liberal government BS. Several of them told me that they wish they had someone like Trump. A taxi driver in Dublin told me that he pays over a 50% income tax.

I worked as a private IT contractor for a long time before switching to my current job. The hardest interview I had ever had was with my current boss. I walked out of there thinking there's no way I got the job. We're still pretty fast-paced for a public sector shop. Our teams on both infrastructure and software development side of the house are pretty badass. No one slacks and everyone is good at what they do. When we implement new technology or improve on an existing project, we make life easier for the average member of the public who has to use our services, and it's super rewarding to see people's lives actually get easier as a result.
So yeah, I get less money, but I also get all of what I said above, a stupid short commute to work, and as an extra bonus, I don't have to work in silicon valley any more where everyone eats, sleeps, and breathes work 24/7 with no account for family or personal time.
