McCracken I won't go into it but I ran out of gas at the top of Slickrock. Hiked to Green Cove and made a phone call, met back at trail 6 and hiked back to the top. I definitely call BS.

250f4life Yeah I call BS. I mean 3 hours in the rain and only 1 mile. The hiking up there is not that bad. And I have drug many a winch cable up those hills.

bigjerm Wow if its true I want to learn how he does it. I figure he wouldn’t start hiking until daylight and quit at dark for best light with cameras. So at best he starts at 6 a.m. and ends at 8 p.m. so 14 hours of hiking. If at one point it took him 3 hours to go 1 mile that leaves 11 hours to travel the other 39 miles so he would need to keep pace at 3.54 miles an hour. Not so bad on most of trail 1 but what about the rest of the trails and in pouring down rain? Not to mention if you read the article he stops, takes pictures, takes notes, analyzes situations. So really the pace of 3.54 mph has to be faster to allow him time to stop and do all the things he does.

yellowxj Heres an article that purports that Gerken himself walked 40 miles of tellico trails in the rain in one day. At one point it took him 3 hours to walk 1 mile. He's a tough hombre to walk 40 miles of tellico terrain in a day. I'm pretty confident I couldnt do 40 miles of tellico in a day in my jeep. I think a fast hiker on the AT could do 15 miles a day so 40 would be amazing.

http://www.charitynavigator.org/inde...ary&orgid=4480

I've found web sites where they're searching for more staff members.

Anyone got more info?
I know their founder is on more that one board of trustees/directores and used to be a lawyer for the sierra club...
