OK, so haven't really worked on the truck, its been put in storage(under a friend's barn) since I moved and changed jobs.
I had a 280zx engine mounted in the car, but am now looking at going LS. Now working at a corvette shop so those parts are readily available.

Need to figure out what drivetrain to use that will give me a driver side transfer case output from the transfer case. I'd like to have a PTO output too..

Anybody know what it takes to mount an LS to an older SBC drivetrain? (clutch and flywheel)

I've finally started working on it again...

A friend of mine gave me front and rear minitruck axles for my project. The front is missing hubs and some other parts but I have 2 long axles and one short with the birfs. no third member...

I bought an e-locker rear end today and was given a 4 runner rear end to use as spare rear axles and for a third member for the front. The spare needs gears though.

Trying to figure what to do for my drivetrain. I really want to run toyota transfer case(s) but a datsun engine/trans...
the divorced Nissan T100L transfer cases arent exactly the best for packaging when wanting double reduction..

What are the odds that you still have that 521 bed floor around? I could sure use the wheel wells.

thanks, I've been working on this thing a little but haven't posted much. Once I get coilovers in I'll be able to get it to a roller pretty quick. It's this thing with how my bank account is set up lol.

That might be what happened to the truck my son bought. They were cut out when we picked it up. How much of the 720's firewall did you end up putting in? Looked like at least from 521 the heater box to the clutch master mount.

The only 720 parts left are the steering column and transfer case.

I just looked back, I like that power brake booster set up. We are going to have to move the firewall back about 4" to fit a 22r in his.

Oh yeah, the brake booster spacer is left from the 720. I just drilled holes in the firewall for the studs to go through. Hooks up to the original 521 pedal like stock. The booster itself is for a Datsun 240z. (A $400 new one that I had laying around from a previous car build but never used)

Love the Datsun sas as hardly anybody does it. My 720 will be moving on from stock in the next year or two and moved into full l toy status.... Sure I'll spend far too much time and money on it, lol.

Can't wait to see yours finished

I did an SAS on a 720 with the SD22. I originally fabbed an oil pan for the IFS system so I went with an driver drop yota axle. Added a turbo to the SD22 and ran it at 12-15psi. It wasn't a speed demon but it pulled the 35"s on 4:10 gears just fine. The turbo was really pretty easy and well worthwhile. The fuel mileage was not much to write home about as i recall.

Excellent read on this build. I know you were having concerns about the really low output of this engine. But it might not be so bad.

The engine was rated at a mere 61hp @ 4000rpm (according to wikipedia) however, it's the torque that counts here.

An interesting tidbit of info, all engines that are spinning below 5252rpm will tend to produce more torque than horsepower. Since this engine is producing 61hp under 5252rpm, then we can assume that torque output is above 61 lb-ft. I would guess above 100 lb-ft based on displacement…thats around (maybe a bit under) the typical torque output of a 2 liter four banger, gas or diesel.

If the engine is equipped with a VE injector pump, theres a good possibility that the power can be turned up a few hp with just a screwdriver. However a turbo would really wake up that little engine.

Keep in mind that even though you're adding a ton more weight, this truck will still be relatively light, so I think with proper tuning and a turbo, you'll be able to drive that thing and easily keep up with traffic.
