Have you ever busted a H233B Rear Axle Shaft?

I'm just doing a little recon work here.
If you have busted a shaft, please let me know year and model of your truck, what size tires and what gearing (diff & t-case)you are running.
Thanks!

Bodyman (4x4parts) did the same thing too with 35s and 4.56s. 31 spline and locker and AC t-case gears in his pathy.

These break fairly commonly down here in Aus in the Nissan Patrols. They generally shatter around the spline area and take out the carrier bearing and will also usually destroy an ARB if fitted. Have seen everything from a MQ right through the GQ and GU range break. These all run the 31 spline axle i beleive.

I'm glad I swapped mine when I saw the twisted splines, then.

don't the patrols have a H260 in them? I thought they only had the H233 Front solid axle.

anything can be twisted. I twisted a 31 spline 9" shaft with my 3.0L

Only some have the H260. The Majority have the H233.

A 31spline 9" shaft is not known as a strong shaft either. Maybe in a drag car but not in a 4WD.

So I guess the next question would be who has broken the 33 spline shaft?
From what I know they are comparable to a D44 shaft.

US 60 serries patrols only came with C216 front and rear axles. Ausie patrols had the 216 front and an option for a 260 "heavy duty" rear. My patrol just happens to have an H260 from Oz.

The newer M and G seeries had 233 front and rear with an ocassional 260 rear.

I have never seen a H233 axle break or even a H190 axle. I blew up allot of H190s thirds in my younger days.

If your making alloy shafts. I am interested.

Here ya go Barry..mine broke here and so did Kenny's..

Now rumor has it that Superior is willing to make 33 spline chromo shafts for the h233b,they just need 10 sets of preorders. It seems like we can use the 33 spline side gears in the pathys.

I would order some but i went with a 14 bolt..

A 233b 33 spline shaft is basically the same size as a stock 30 spline Dana 44.

I don't see it economical buying spendy chromo's, $450 gear sets, high dollar lockers, having to buy a pathy axle if you want to swap to disk brakes, etc., for our axles.

You would be way better off just buying a 9" and building it.

I knew you guys broke them. But I have never seen anyone in person break one. 31 or 33 spline.

I am definitely interested in some chromo shafts for both my rigs. I already have discs on both and lower gears and spare rear driveshafts for each.

Yea I know the gears are pricey but that may soon change.
I'm not sure how much the chromos will be but for the guys that already run the 31 spline can have the convenience of just swapping the side gears to run a 33 spline chromo.I still dont understand why nissan ran such a Beefy r/p to run the 1.26 dia shafts.

No. All Wd21s 87-95 had optional discs. All h233s 31 spline in US. Other countries had C200s.

All R50s 96-2004 had h233 33 spline with drums only. Also wider than a wd21.

I sold my R50 for my second wd21.

I swapped in some discs for $50 in each of mine. Can beat that price. LSD, ARB, detroits and lock rights are all available for the 31 spline. Only lsd and arb for the 33 spline.

I love my 31spline h233s. Both of mine have 4.8 or 4.9($200 used carrier from a 03 Xterra) gears.

If you want lower than 5.13s. Then I would swap out the axles.

Please make some chro molys.
