Any regulars that want to take a nice buck from my property for half the meat let me know. There are usually 4-5 chasing these around in circles.

South a zone

Applied for elk - Nada
Applied for sheep - nada
Applied for Muley zone G3 with 10 preference point, nope. Second choice - D12, nope. Got a San Diego A22 either-sex archery tag on 3rd choice.

I really wanted to hunt the desert muleys in D12, but I'm not wasting 10 preference points to get that tag.

No. The entire state is lead-free as of July 1. Including shot shells for upland birds, small game, etc.

Negative. Sat all day Saturday over water and saw zero game. Cameras had nothing worth going back for so I pulled them and the blind. Moved camera to new water source. We'll see if any bucks are using it this weekend.

I did get some kinda crappy footage of a hard horned 6x bull elk napping at 410yds using iPhone and binoculars yesterday. He was bedded 100yds above where my blind and cameras were but in the three weeks the cameras have been out I have no pics of him.

Anyone else been out in the heat, stickers and ticks chasing blackies?

California Deer Hunting 2019

I canít really imagine deer hunting at this time of year.

Itís still hot here during bow season which starts in October, and even some during the early part of gun season. Iíve been sweated out many times opening weekend of bow season.

I've been sweated out on almost every A-zone deer hunt I've ever been on. Starts about 5 min after I leave the truck. Usually stops when I've been out of fluids or after dark when I'm headed home with the windows rolled down.

No "scentless" hunting out here without ozonics and I don't have one.

Finally got into some bucks today. Unfortunately I spooked all 5 of em.
2 nice ones at 65yds, just didn't have time to make it happen. I'll be back for them in 11 days with rifle in hand

Saw 3 small forkies this morning. Made a decent stalk on two of em in the brush. They, of course, moved from the spot I last had eyes on them and were now up the hill. As I peeked around I could just see heads n necks at 32yds. Drew but never had an opening to the vitals so I passed on em. Archery over for me. Rifle opens Saturday. Hope to have one down opening day so I can go up to b zone and hang a stand for archery deer and bear.
