Let's see your YETIs

There's bound to be a few of you that got in on the first batch so let's see and hear what your plans are.
Mine is ordered, as well as some of the parts needed to remedy the pinned wheels. I'm waiting to order the Vanquish slw hubs to see what size everybody is running...

I got a pre-release version and have beating on it for a couple months. It's been a blast.

I've been running it fully locked pretty much since day 1.

First Week

Well I bought a Yeti on a sick day from work. Its definitely entertaining. It goes 32mph thanks to a big brushless motor and hill climbs and rolls like a southern buggy.

Ripped it for a while, then checked it because the front wheel drive stopped working. A set screw fell out of the front driveline. Tightened everything. An hour later one of the rears stopped spinning. Crappy plastic hub stripped. Ordered 10 of them
This is the other side that started stripping

2nd week

The spur gear was destroyed today after a cyclone doughnut show on pavement. New hubs are installed and steel spur gear is ordered and should be here tuesday. Also picked up another 5000mah 3s Lipo for twice the fun. 90% of the upgrade parts are backordered so I'm upgrading as I go. I lost the driveline at max speed, turns out there is a screw that holds/connects the cv to the driveline. If anyone buys a Yeti or Axial, I highly recommend taking loctite to the entire truck before you use it. Everything was loose out of the box which lead to all broken parts so far, including the slop on the spur gear.

This is the first real rc car I've had and I'm learning as I go. definitely pulls wheelies on concrete so I like it immediately.

The wheels and tires look weird but other than that it looks pretty cool. Hope they put bigger gears and shafts in the rear axle and made some other improvements to give it more strength in those critical areas.

The XL is sweet no doubt. Fingers crossed a WraithXL is around the corner.

My Yeti is running Treps, but basically looks the same as the ones above.

The $700 price for the yetiXL isnt so sweet..... Preorder for them started today from TowerHobbies. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could.

I'm holding off on the Yeti for the XL...to see what Harley and a few other people say about it on RCC....waiting for Brandon to drop the beans on more info for it!
I have one more RC purchase of year and its gonna be an XL or a regular Yeti...just waiting for the juice on the XL..
So far its looking sweet..but as anything...pay to play. If it's $700 RTR and it was anything like the Yeti RTR...then I'd be a lil frustrated to dump $100-200 into it out of the box...

I ended up preordering one on Tower, with a super saver membership got $100 off. Figured I would be a guinea pig and see what I could tear up then start sorting out upgrades. Also looking to get a wraith for more of a crawler rig then the YetiXL will be more of a racer/basher. One thing I know I will want upgrade wise is the 2 speed tranny from Axial. Hopefully that wont be too far off.

I know this is an old thread. Just curious if anyone else has built a Yeti XL.

It's been awhile since my last RC car, a Kyosho Optima Mid, which I thought was fast...

I did not opt for the RTR Yeti XL, and got a builder version with some extras included. I built it with a Castle Mamba Monster X and 1515-2200 kV Sensored Motor and twin 11.1v battery packs (22v total). I was not prepared for how much power this thing has. First time out, I could hardly keep it from flipping over backwards with even a mild trigger finger. I used the software to tone down the throttle off of the "hit" quite a bit (like 70-80% IIRC); this made the car drivable, but it'll still lift the front off the ground and carry it, sometimes even flip over backward (depending on traction). I have no idea what the top speed of this thing is, as I don't think it's ever got up to top speed, but it is way, way faster than any RC car I've ever had before.

Anyone have any advice for tuning this thing so it's more drivable?

When I had my Yeti XL, I used two 2s packs to make it 4s total. Much easier to drive. I also 3D printed double beadlocks because I kept blowing the tires off the wheels. Even glueing the tires to the beadlocks and locking them down, I still blew off tires. It was fun as hell but hard to work on and maintain. I sold a few sets of the wheels but people still killed them. These things are just hard to keep alive! I'd go with an X-Maxx or Unlimited Engineering E-Maxx if I were to do it again.

Yea, I thought about getting a couple of 2S packs to tone it down, I may give that a shot. Right now it's a handful to drive, but it is interesting hitting the throttle while it's already doing 25-30mph and have it lift the front wheels off the ground. I have a little over an acre right next to a main road where people regularly drive 45+ and it'll easily pass traffic on the road... if I can keep it straight enough.
