Coming off 2nd dam, the Bronco is hauling ass into the Kiosk area, which for Joe Blow would have likely earned him a ticket.

They play bumper cars on numerous occassions.

Anyone seriously concerned about the general public's perceptions of four wheelers would not consider this show a "decent job".

The only things missing were open containers, a trail of garbage, crap on a rock, and some inept cops saving the trail.

RTF should get the credit that they deserve for putting their brand on the same activity for which they (their officers and directors) have openly criticized here for years.

This issue does highlight why those interested in off-road cannot get behind a consistent land use policy message - it doesn't exist.
You forgot that they are driving vehicles without plates or registration and are seen many times only wearing lap belts.

I am not saying that it's PERFECT, but what I AM saying is that it could have been a lot worse.

As far as I could tell, they didn't go off trail, they didn't show fluids leaking everywhere, they didn't weld up that spring in dry conditions, they picked up their garage in the shot where Rut lost his spare, they didn't blast their music, noone became a trail tampon, they didn't have a shot of someone taking a dump in the woods and leaving it there, and if you noticed.....they WALKED into camp at Spider and didn't drive in.

It could have been way worse.

Like when they did this in Moab:

So to sum it up.

While I see the activities in this episode as mostly harmless I do understand the concerns brought up by folks here.

With that said what I am truly saddened by is the "Wasted Opportunity". Not knowing the whole situation surrounding this and the level of involvement of the County and RTF I can only surmise but surmise I will do.

If in fact RTF was involved in this (John, John, Eric?) and the County was contacted which I would assume happened due to the need for permits for filming etc etc. I have to say that I am flabbergasted at the wasted chance for some informational/educational aspect to this episode.

I would imagine the response will be that "We" have no control over the edit and content. To that I would suggest that if that is in fact the case you should have politely excused yourselves from involvement. Negotiate folks!

Not one mention of RTF, FOTR, The county. Not one mention of the work that has been done which in fact directly relates to them even being able to film this in the first place.

So sad, what a loss. Folks will move on and this will be forgotten in no time but "Hot Damn" guys you are better than this and should know by now how to crab an opportunity when it is presented to you.

Tim.

Youre absolutely right. At first i was just excited to see some 4 wheeling on the tube. It was really just 3 giddy 14 year old girls playing bumper cars on the trail. In no way shape or form gave any credit to the trail or its supporters. They blew right past loon lake and the kiosk, they could have easily made something up where a ranger broke down some history/events/progress of the trail before it started.

They flashed a few pictures, played some old footage of other people wheeling and called it a day. I didnt like how one of the clips was of yodaman rolling. That stuff happens and it really sucks when it does but they made it seem like thats the goal of the hobby is to destroy your shit. Just go out there and give it hell until you have to walk out...

It could have been made into a really cool adventure but it was portrayed just like it was a theme park.

Ive seen at least 5 youtube videos of guys going out and really having fun, documenting the trail and there just regular joe shmoes who can put together something better than a tv production crew. I knew the show would be super cheese right off the bat but the whole going to google thing added another level of cheese i wasn't ready for.

Whatever. Its typical tv shit. I saw that their next episode is driving through the desert blindfolded, thats enough stupidity for me. I guess thats what attracts people watching tv? I wont watch tv if theres not something to be learned...i guess thats why im usually on the history channel mostly!

Well....on a sidenote: I have a screenplay that I wrote several years ago that does everything that you guys have said should have been on this episode...

It's not EXACTLY about the Rubicon, it's not like a documentary with talking heads and information on the Rubicon.....it's about a family experiencing nature in the Sierras, doing the "John Muir" thing and "recharging" in the mountains. It's just that they are doing that while running the Rubicon.

I don't want to TELL the audience about the Rubicon....I want to SHOW them if that makes sense. I want to show them what wheeling the Rubicon is REALLy all about...

My idea was to shoot it in the same format and way as Ron Kauk's "Return to Balance" video that was played on PBS, but with showing the beauty of the Rubicon and the surrounding area.

Here's kind of an idea with a short clip of Ron's video. Start watching at 1:30 and substitute "Climbing" for "Rock-crawling" in his words.

BUT: I could never make it happen. Only Del and Kevin Carey knew about this project until now... Figured I would post it up in public since it's stalled.

That would be awesome Kurt, maybe we could get funding from the County to help with the financials. Oh wait we aint got no money, we spent it all on a bridge in the middle of no where we were forced to build.....lmao.

I apologize for my tongue in cheek reaction. I just got home from another unrelated waste of taxpayers money meeting and I'm a little het up.....

I just finished watching this & I must say I'm extremely disappointed. Looked like a bunch of Bay Area rookies "wheeling" like ass monkey's. No respect at Uncle Tom's. Seriously, left behind a rig from a broken motor mount...

Poor representation of what we really do & enjoy about going out on any trail.

They had an opportunity to talk about all the work that FOTR has put into keeping the trail open, and it was lost.

I know I will not watch any of their shows.
From looking at the list of shows they have done, they have done a few off-road ones in different locations.

It was parked behind caretaker cabin and a day or so later a repair and recovery crew took care of it.

Just watched the show. Entertaining but yea they acted like idiots probably on purpose. Its TV, if they acted like saints rating would be shit. My son loved it and wants to run it one day. Good enough for me.
