cantina

Ive never been to the rubicon, always been fordyce....
I want to go check out the trail over labor day weekend.
Is the cantina for the con something that jams up the trail and the parking for tow rigs at loon?

Thanks for any input.

Forget about your tow rig down the Loon dam unless you get there early. Park at the Chalet overflow instead....grab some tacos, tickets and have a great time...don't need to be present to win.

I think he is asking about running the trail that weekend, not joining in for the party.
If so may want to go in at wentworth and bypass most of the crowd

Is there a spot on wentworth to leave a tow rig and drive a green sticker rig to the trail? I am down to get some tacos and buy some raffle tickets at the cantina so how far is the Chalet at loon from the trailhead and can a green sticker rig be driven that distance?

Thank you

The Chalet is not that far at all. It is a county road so you could get hassled but not usually. That's a big event and the LE might be present so ?

If you do use Chalet don't park on the blacktop surrounding Chalet. Turn in there and on your right you will see a large gravel area for Helo landing, you can park there but stay outa the Helo area and as far to the perimeter as you can.

As far as Wentworth goes I am unclear as to the intersect with Trail, there is the road that comes in by Ellis before the new bridge and there is a trail that connects at bottom of bowl, don't know which one you come in on from Wentworth ?

Couple years ago was plenty of parking on the road near the campgrounds to unload and drive green sticker in, inside of the "no off-road" sign.

Drive up WWS. Big area for parking up the road from the dirt road that leads to trail. The trail is going to be pretty packed though I would personally wait a different weekend

If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll be quickly corrected. You could probably leave a tow rig near Airport Flats Campground and take the "backway" in to Wentworth. It's the offroad trail right before the bridge. Comes out on the paved section of Wentworth Springs road. Take a right and it's about half a mile back to dirt and you're on the Rubicon

The paved section in these areas are dual use so Green stickers are okay. (I thought this was the case from Chalet parking to Loon Dam entrance also)

Please be aware that, in the past, citations have been issued for driving on Dual-Use section from Chalet to Spillway after dark. CVC Section 38026.5 (b).

Same applies to Dual-Use section around Airport Flat/Wentworth Springs.

Section 38026.5 :: 2012 California Codes :: US Codes and Statutes :: US Law :: Justia

wow, good to know. Thank you very much for that info.
Do rangers or sheriffs usually hang out up near the spillway on busy weekends ?

Fed LEOs haven't had a reciprocal agreement with the Sheriff to enforce vehicle codes for a couple of years. They are limited to Federal Statutes.

Sheriffs have been generally friendly with OHV community and probably aren't looking for any "scalps".

That said, I think it is important for everyone to know the laws, if only to assist in passing the attitude test. Others cozy with the local LEOs may have a better perspective.

"That guy" is gone.

Like most of those laws....The sheriff generally doesn't hassle things like that....only if you're acting like an idiot, then they can pull that stuff out of their back pocket. I just read Dale's follow up....We said the same thing. Can they? Yes. Do they? Only if you deserve it by failing attitude tests.
