OK to camp at the Tahoe side staging area?

My son's Boy Scout Troop is going snow camping this weekend but the campground they were going to stay at closed this week due to too much snow. We were going to stay at Sugar Pine Point just south of Tahoma. So we're looking for alternates. Could we camp at the Tahoe side staging area? It has vault toilets but I'm not sure if they're open or buried in snow. We'd have to bring water or melt snow. Anyone know how much snow is there? Sugar Pine Point says they had 4-5 feet last weekend but it's been snowing since then. The boys are going to sleep in quinzees or igloos. More snow means less to pile to make a quinzee.
Either Hodgdon Meadows or Wawona in Yosemite is probably where we're going to go. We're going to make a decision tomorrow and I wanted to provide another option.

I dont know the current snow conditions but once you leave the neighborhood in tahoma you can camp anywhere along the trail.

Before we got all the rain yesterday, the bathrooms were sticking out of the snow about 3 feet, just the tops of the roofs. These are normally locked at this time of year. We're supposed to get 2-4 feet of snow by Sunday. Might be nasty. Good luck.

Wow, snow camping with the Boy Scouts eh? I thought we did a lot when I was a Scout, but don't remember anything involving snow.
Hope you guys managed to have a good time somewhere giddyap. Did you even make it into the area? Was pretty nasty much of the time I heard.

Hope you all managed to have fun no matter where you ended up.
