For what it's worth...

They are not trying to close the Rubicon.

The meeting was VERY productive. The FS, users(Lake Tahoe Hi-Lo's), RTF, FOTR and El Dorado had a great discussion about the future of the Rubicon.

Long story short, Placer has backed out of any responsibility for trail maintenance. The maintenance then falls to the forests. El Dorado County is working on permission, from the TNF & LTBMU, for the ability to write OHV grants for the ENTIRE length of the Rubicon.

That would be a huge advantage as El Dorado County (read as Vickie Sanders) as done a great job at trail maintenance on the ElDo side.

It's all about water quality. If there is erosion and sedimentation getting on to the water ways, there will be closures. If the trail can be maintained to prevent erosion, no sedimentation, no closures.

Thanks Doug,

Yes. El Dorado County is working on MOU similar to the Easement that was established on the El Dorado side. Anyone who knows the Tahoe side, they have not submitted any OHV Grants. Last year, RTF paid roughly $15,000 to get 1 hour of helicopter time to deliver rock to Cadillac Hill. Anyone who has worked on Cadillac Hill over the years building gabions knows, finding rock is PITA.

If El Dorado County can secure this, RTF will have to spend money on the Tahoe side, to establish matching funds for grants. We are waiting and hoping that this can be completed as soon as possible. Putting 1 entity responsible from Loon to Tahoe, and that entity is aware of the economic impact to their county (compared to the other County that doesn't think there is one) is a good thing.

That's my understanding from the updates that I've received.
