I just got an email through FOTR that the writer and his friends had broken trail all the way to Airport Flat! That is such good news. They also said that they'd seen five rigs, at least 4 of which were heading in to Wentworth. What a wonderful thing.

I havn't heard anything, but don't really expect to anytime soon. We've got smart guys out there though who are probably having a great time. I will post as soon as I hear anything.

i hope all get back safe with their rigs. The nasty weather in Nor Cal has been in the news here in HI (vacation) and it looks like more snow coming.

We were about at Pollock Pines headed to Mormon Immigrant when we got Del's FOTR email. We didn't have the rigs or the gear this trip out to do a snow rescue, but we figured we could at least try to help pack down the trail as far as possible without becoming part of the problem.

From the Loon Lake turnoff to Airport Flat there were some decent solid tracks under about 12" - 18" of new powder. It was really nice snow too, the kind you can actually float on. We turned around at Airport Flat and met up with five other rigs on the way up. Here's some pics:

Thanks for the pics, the 4 door heep and the guy in the oompa loompa gear is mine. He's been waiting for the chance to try out the new rig...8 weeks ago is was a 92 yj with only 2 doors. I know he is happy to help.

Everyone looked familiar, but I am horrible with placing names/faces/rigs together. On the way back from Airport Flat we ran into the Bronco at about 4:30PM. They were followed by a yellow Jeep and a white Jeep.

We ran into the 4-door OD colored Jeep between the snow plow berm and the Loon Lake turnoff. The fifth rig we saw was a really tall white first gen Yota.

As far as any other traffic on Ice House Road, we saw an older Chevy with a plow on the front, but I think he was a local and not part of any rescue effort.

I have a feeling everyone is warm and cozy in a cabin waiting for daylight... atleast that is what I would do

Update!

Lisa just called...

They couldn't reach them. She thinks they were about 3 miles from the cabin, before they had to turn around. They couldn't risk breaking the bigger rigs, I guess one of the group, broke his Klune V and they kept slipping beads.

Eric will fill the details when he gets home, if not first thing in the morning.

Update from Ken

And it's sad but true. They didn't reach Lawyer's before they had to turn around. It's snowing again, and Ken called from Pollock Pines. He's trying to reach Chris for confirmation that another group will be going up tomorrow. Ken is turning around and heading back up to the trailhead now and will wait for whatever is the next step. He will be staying where the plow stops after the Loon Lake turn off. He's sounding worried because of the new snow. He's calling Phil to see if there really is a group with 49 inch tires. Otherwise he thinks it's time to call the SAR and at least get the kids out.

I just talked to ken and it sounds pretty blique for 4 wheeled vehicles at this point.

it would be one rig trying to break trail on a set of 49's it's never run before so it might be pointless. Last ditch effort sounds like finding some snowmobiles which sure doesn't sound hard.... but I can't get anyone to commit.

I hate to say it but if it's still snowing and not much progress was made in that many hours SAR might be the only answer at this point.

I can't believe nobody here wants to go up on sleds.

Call is in to SAR

I am supposed to hear from SAR in half an hour or else call them back. Ken is waiting to hear before he goes back up. He's in Pollock Pines with good phone reception if anyone is trying to reach him. This has been a good fight. Can't win them all. Thanks to everyone for all of their help. If SAR takes in their big cat as pictured on their website, the boys could probably drive out behind them.....

SAR will call me back in the morning to discuss options. Ken is waiting overnight at Pollock Pines with good phone reception. As soon as I know anything I will call him and try to post new information.

My two wolf dogs would LOVE to go in on sleds if I had them! Isn't this just amazing?

Damn, I was hoping to hear that everyone was home already

I have access to 2 snowmobiles but I would need to pick them up in Tahoe.
My rig does pretty good in the white stuff as is, but we could even bolt up Phils 49's if need be.
We coud deffinatly get this done today but I have a business meeting untill about 11:00am, then I can clear my schedule after that.

Lets figure this out guys......

I just spoke to Ken, and he is waiting for Nancy to call with info from ElDo Sherriff/SAR.

He will call me when he knows something, and I will forward it here.

I took a few pics, it was very deep and had the consistency of powdered sugar.
I feel just awful that we weren't able to reach the cabin.

This last pic was just to show how deep it is. You were pushing snow out of the way when you opened the door. The bronco is on 38.5's on a 6 inch lift.

Snow was great until we got past airport flat. We just couldn't get on top of it.
