fermentor, thanks this is great info. truly great. Ill happily pay more for gas at ice house resort to have the drive .

Looks like it will be Barret, then rubicon, then hell hole on saturday, so we will end up doing the raffle at hell hole most likely. this is still in the planning stages.

Edit: Southfork is booked for every Saturday In August so that would not work for us. That seems to be a great location though.

Availability of fuel at Ice House can vary. Most recommend checking with them before heading in to allow for "plan B". https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ice-H...59108547500682

Bummer that South Fork is booked. It would have been perfect for your plans.

Another option would be some of the open spots by Airport Flat. Forget setting up toward end of week, but you can normally snag some dirt getting there Wednesday or earlier.

We have successfully occupied this https://www.google.com/maps/place/38...!3m1!1s0x0:0x0 across Airport before bridge. And have had mixed success across the river https://www.google.com/maps/place/38...!3m1!1s0x0:0x0. It helps if you have someone "at home" while everyone else is wheeling.

Thanks for the info and the google maps locations.

Its now probably going to be Barret(M-T) /con(W-F)/hell hole(Sat) with the bbq and raffle event at hell hole somewhere, so now we are going to be scouting hell hole's general area, or just have it down at the lake if needed for the day run on Saturday. I have been spending time on google earth going up and down the roads looking for tow rig parking and what not. Ill head out there sometime in the next few months to scout find some good tow rig parking and maybe a spot for the bbq/raffle and what not. It looks like whoever tows will need to be moving around a bunch from barret to the con to hell hole.

Anywhere near Pollock Pines or on the way to Ice House to leave an old Suburban tow rig, no trailer?

Any issues with theft when parking on the Tahoe side?
Was going to drop the truck/trailer at the end of the trail and drive the jeep to the start at loon.
Haven't seen anything posted but wanted to ask before I make the drop.

Not heard of anything, nor has anything ever happened to our tow rigs.

The quad rental guys are on the road every day and there is plenty of traffic through the parking lot at all times of the day and night.

may sound like a stupid question.......but is there a sign on hwy 89 that directs you to Tahoma staging area and the road to the rubicon/Cadillac hill? I have come out that way several times. but wouldn't see any signs unless I was looking in my rearview mirror. this year I am trailering my buggy from motel in so lake Tahoe and leaving truck and trailer at Tahoma staging area/parking lot. just trying to cover all basis and not miss the turn. thanks for any info.

The sign has been gone some years and there others. It's small and IIRC only in one direction. I always watch for the store/deli on the lake side of road thats just north of the turn. Good spot to get last food, ice & whatnot.

Running the trail all the way through this weekend, Loon to Tahoma.

Towing from the bay area, wheeling rigs are pretty streetable.

Question is best place to leave tow rigs?

If we tow all the way to Loon we've gotta back track up ice house after... Conversely towing all the way to Tahoe is a long back track too, but nice because tow rig is waiting for you at the end...

Is there a better middle ground that's relatively secure and legal to dump tow rigs? A big parking lot in Kyburz or Pollock? Only 3 tow rigs so don't need a ton of space.

Thanks for any ideas!

Suggestions on where to park our tow rig on the Tahoe side for probably 4 days? (July 2018)

We are planning to run Rubicon from Tahoe side to Loon and Loon back to Tahoe side.

Jeeps are streetable so once there, tow rig would not need to move.

Tow rig is around 70 feet long. Thanks in-advance!

Pic of tow setup for reference.

Check the Rubicon Calendar, as the trail is closed several days in July. Wouldn't want you to be disappointed.

Thanks for the heads up. Someone from our group has been in communication with the Rubicon Trail Foundation folks and it looks like our dates are good to go. We plan to be on the trail July 16-18, 2018.

A few plan to run Fordyce on July 20th as well.

Small group heading into the Rubicon July 23rd. Then heading over to Fordyce. I am not new to the con just been 24 years. Will be towing two rigs on a goose neck with a 2 wd dually. What is the best route to Loon Lake. I have done a bunch of looking but can not find the right answer. Is there more trail before Loon Lake and if so where would a good parking spot be. My buggy is not a street legal rig. Any help is appreciated. I also am not new to Pirate but could not get my old account fixed for whatever reason. (hienz57)

Just got back from our trip (epic). We left our tow pigs at Tahoe Valley RV Resort & Campground. $5/day and reasonably secure. Spot was perfect as the road coming out of South Lake Tahoe to the trailhead (where everyone leaves their trailers on public land) was pretty damned steep with 10mph corners (a first for me) and it saved about an hour and a half of backtracking for us since we came up 395 from SoCal.

Keep in mind that 50 also has ongoing road construction restricting traffic to one-way in spots, so budget some extra time.

Looking for tow rig and trailer parking ideas...

3 rigs on trailers coming from bay area. Running the trail all the way from Loon to Tahoe. Wheeling rigs are registered, legal, etc so we can drive a bit on the street. There's gotta be a good spot on 50 or nearby to leave the tow rigs so there's a bit of a drive in the wheeling rigs to Loon at the beginning and a bit of a drive back to the tow rigs from Tahoe?

I gotta ask, why not just drive the rigs the whole way?

This. I'd go in Tahoe side and than hit Barrett on way out.

If not maybe hit up the Chevron off Fresh Pond on 50.
