Airport Flat

Someone school me on camping here. USFS cancelled our Red Fir group site(Loon Lake 2nd Dam) this morning 24 hours before we are to be there stating there is still 2' of snow there We have a group of 20+ and thought airport would be a nice close alternative.

Jack- it's a nice area with a couple big group areas. It has pit toilets and fire rings with great access to the trailhead. It's one of my favorite spots to camp when I take the camper.

On Saturday June 12 they would not let me launch my boat on the snow-less (as verified by me) Loon boat launch because "the water was not on." I kid you not. I told them I was not thirsty but they refused saying the water had to be "tested." Our tax dollars at work. "You cannot use something you helped pay for, we're American land and Leisure, Bla bla bla bla."

And then some knuckle head completley blocked the primitive ramp with his boat and trailer.

The USFS and American Land and Leisure are in my opinion out of control with all their last minute made up rules.

Thanks Mark we will be up there early in the morning so I will keep my fingers crossed. I plan on going by Red Fir and if has no snow I will be real pissed since the Wentworth entrance sounds like it still has a lot of snow we will more than likely back track to Loon

FWIW- Here's a couple of pics my wife took on Saturday. You're basically looking at the back side of Red Fir from the Kiosk. The gate to the CG was locked with a closed sign posted.

We will be at Airport Flat on both sides of the Creek.

Main Camp RV's and such can find spots at the managed (first come first serve) campground - tent campers at the entrance to the old trail or across the street.

LOTS of room for us.
