Costco LED shop lights

I'm pleasantly surprised with my new LED shop lights. Originally I just bought two to see how well they worked then went back for more to completely redo the garage. Costco had them on sale for $31.xx down from $39.xx regularly. Plus we get 2% back with out Premium Membership. Equivalents priced at Home Depot were around $75 each. AND the Costco here just announced they now have diesel at the pumps!

We will see how they hold up over time.

Edit: In the picture I just had them plugged into power strips to see how well they lit and to make sure I had good spacing and all.

Wow, looks pretty good. I just threw out all of my T8 fixtures and have a couple of T5HO's to go over the work bench. Maybe I'll do some of these LED's for the rest of the space.

Does it have any ceiling height requirements or suggestions?

Flush mount?

Can these be hard wired?

I'm getting interested

I have been considering replacing the crappy 4 footers in the kitchen because i'm tired of replacing bulbs or ballasts.

At that price i'll pick some up!

Here is a link to the 2 pack of the exact same lights I bought. I can not find the singles at the sale price online. This will at least give you the details.

http://www.costco.com/Feit-Electric-...100155638.html

They come with screws for flush mount or a 6" drop cable. I mounted mine on the cable. They come with a standard 2 prong plug with about 4' of cable. No ground. If you want to hard wire them then just lop the end off. Stripe and wire as needed.

Amazon has the same light for $52.97.
Link with more details:
Feit Electric LED Utility Shop Light - - Amazon.com

The majority of the reviews are very good.

Don't dual bulb T8 fixtures throw more lumens than these LED fixtures?

Other than operating cost savings....... Are these that much better?

Dual T8s are 4900 lumen, 64 watts.

Dual T8 76.5 lumen per watt

This LED fixture 97.3 lumen per watt

so far these seem to be good lights. i put 5 of them up in the shop. if they hold up well for the next 2-3 months ill do another 5-10 lights (shops 20'x60') . had to go to 3 places before i found some in stock so i guess others are enjoying them.

I put up 8 in a standard two car garage. Two circuits so I can have the garage door open and shut off the ones about the door but still light the area deeper inside.

I just ordered 4 of these, and if they work half way decent im ordering 4 more.

Current shop has 4 of the 8' t12's in the main work area. Going to replace each one with a pair of the LEDs and do a comparison. I'll throw up some pics once the UPS man gets here.

8, four foot long lights in a 20x24??????

Seems like A LOT.......How do I determine how many fixtures to get?

My shop currently has old, T12 fixtures.....they hum take forever to turn on in the cold, and I have 4 burned out bulbs

I have the following lights in my shop:
(7) of the 4' long, 2 bulbs fixtures
(6) of the 4' long, 1 bulbs fixtures

My shop is around 16'-18' wide and 62ish feet long

sounds about right for a work area, it all depends on what your using the shop space for
when you only have a 2 car garage to work in... every square inch is workshop

my 50x50 barn is broken up into workshop, fab bay, storage, garage and upstairs
i have 9 four foot 2 bulb t8s in the 20x30 workshop portion of my barn; in 3 switched zones
6 four foot t8s in the 12x30 fab bay and only 2 four foot t8s in the 20x50 garage area
that leaves 18x30 storage area that has 3 60 watt light bulbs and the 30x50 upstairs that has 3 flood lights

<shrug> I've got 8 4' fixtures (T8s at the moment, seriously considering switching to all LEDs,) in half of a 20'x20'. Almost enough light. When we bought the place, there were 2, count them, 2, 100w incandescents in the whole mancave.

Quiet - silent operation
Instant on and coloration
Brighter than T8's

I fucking love them. I have 12 fixtures in my garage of which 7 are now these LEDS. I have 5 more "in stock" waiting till the T8's that are left die.

These things are great.

Thanks for the info...........I am only concerned that a bank of LEDs will go bad and render the fixture useless, unless its warrantied

With a T8 fixture that I am considering, just would need to replace the bulbs

Just something to consider...

Costco corporate does NOT allow handgun carry by permit holders; NOR does it supply armed guards to protect its customers from criminals who ignore corporate policy.

I'll buy from Sam's.

I drank the koolaid. I actually bought one fixture a couple of months ago but never put it up because the lumen output was so much lower than the t8's. After reading this thread I gave it a chance and put it up yesterday. I had five 4' t12 fixtures and adding that one light seemed like it doubled the amount of light. It was a little dark before I put the light up yesterday and I am almost afraid that it will be too much with 6 of these things.

SO far so good, big difference. Just required a ballast by-pass.
It gives you serious flashes if you look at them.
