RCPFA - Crozet, Va

Figured might as well cross post this from Chit-Chat

Quote:
The RCPFA BOD has been working with the law firm of Williams Mullen to clarify and define how RCPFA can use the property at Crozet. It is clear that we can use it, but it is not exactly clear how often or what to call that use, etc. It may seem like we have not been very communicative in the last few weeks about this issue, but truth be told the BOD are just reacting to new information as it is available. In short we will not have any events at Crozet for a few weeks, but we anticipate setting a summer date for the EOD wounded warrior run and then 2-3 other charity runs later in the year. Wheeling at the Crozet property will change in its nature, and will probably only be available to non members for a small number of charity events per year. The club will continue to schedule trail cleanups and other members only dates once an understanding is reached with the county.

The Williams Mullen Law Firm is the preeminent zoning firm in the area and their first meeting with the zoning board this week went well. We anticipate getting a written opinion from the zoning board in the next 1-2 weeks (best guess) and we will fill everyone in on the news as we get it.

Please take a moment to help RCPFA with its legal costs, donate at Rock Crawlers for the Preservation of Future Access (RCPFA), I know times are tight, but the club is looking at a few thousand in legal costs to resolve this all and will need members support to do this.

Sincerely,

Hayden
Backstory cliff notes version:

Private property under a conservation easement is used for club rock crawling activities (very few spots here in VA as there is pretty well zero public land to use) Neighbors complained with concerns of possible pollution, conservation board and county zoning both found no pollution or other damaging impact from offroad use.

Zoning decided to go ahead and issue a 'cease' order for 'jeep events as not a use by right' for the rural areas property. Law firm has been brought in to examine and determine best course of action.

Working on trail cutting and cleaning a new property site. I haven't been able to make it up yet, trying to get there to check it out and help end of this month.

There are many good people with the club as well as the board of directors so it isn't a one man operation, bummer you had a bad experience but hopefully it won't keep you away for ever.

The membership pricing structure has had to change due to the legal issues that arose and will all be time based unlimited wheeling, either pay for a quarter or full year. No more per diem.

The trail cutting get together are also sort of a free preview opportunity of the property, though it will continue to evolve.

Chris and Heather are great people, hope it all works out. The new neighbor up the road is causing problems. I lived in Crozet- great place but some folks can feel a little overly privileged.

Any news on this? I'm having problems getting on the website/forum. The page comes up, but won't show the forum.

I'd like to join again as I have something to drive now.

Lots of stuff going on and getting underway as far as the club operating along with other areas, such as the RCPFA BIG DOGS event up in winchester last month (2 months ago maybe?) and also operating on member property.

here is a copy and paste i took the liberty to borrow from the rcpfa.com site, this is a response from a similar question over there

Quote:
I didn't do a November update, my fault, sorry. I will be doing an update here soon. There will be member events, The CTC is set for March, We'll be having some trail maintenance, and wheeling coming up in January as well. - John BOD President
I personally let my membership lapse because I knew I was going to be frawking busy the last and next couple months, but if it looks like I will still be in VA in the spring I am going to be renewing for sure there is some good access being opened up for members on member property available. I've not taken my wheeler up there, but have helped out in a few of the cleanup days...it only gets better.

Due to the legalities of it all, there is nothing that could even remotely be viewed in any light as anything 'skirting' the rules or whatever else they decided we were doing wrong. Going forward it will all be on the up and up, unfortunately this also is going to require the club to be a bit more....exclusive for lack of a better word. Just in the sense that the "day use" type of membership and open to large numbers of any and everybody type gatherings are gone. Other than that, there have never been any issues with the activities themselves, just the apparent structure and membership practices.

The website has tightened up in that the referral system that was previously in place and more or less glanced over has been reworked and is now scrutinized, you do not need to be a club member to view and participate in the open portion of the board, but like many online boards (pirate included) paid club membership comes with expanded board options. You do need to sign in and be a...let's call it soft member...to view the board, not all out in the public as it once was.

I lost my train of thought. Please let me know if anything above makes sense or answers your question

I can't view any of the forum as a guest or a registered person. I registered on the site to become a member but haven't paid anything. I filled everything out, including putting a po box for the address (I didn't put my phone number, won't do it).

Since I can't view the board, I don't know what to do to become a "member" so I can wheel. That's basically all I'm looking to do, and if that means helping do trail work or clean up, I don't have a problem with that. Be more than happy to do my part.

Is there someone I can email or something to get on the list for the 'updates'? Maybe someone I can PM on here?

I still can't get on it. Like I said before. The page loads, but there's no forum. Just the header pics/title, and the member info at the bottom.

that is how mine looks when i first go to the website...from there I have to click on the "Forum" block that is in the left corner of the header bar/advert thing and them the auto-login does it's thing and the board appears.

Are you receiving a message that a Referral is required? Took me a few tries to bother reading the message, but there was an update not long ago that basically kicked everybody off and had to re-verify referral sources.
