What ever happened to Crawford's at Tellico?

Still around, closed down, back and forth? I've not been in a while but hear conflicting stories.

I was in Murphy last week and talked to a local who has personal connections.

Apparently, the current owner is going through some personal issues and had to close the campground. There was a price being tossed around that would make people quite interested. Especially if the "new" Tellico takes off.

We camped there two weeks ago. Too depressing to do it again and its really a shame to see it the way it is. Really nice lady keeping an eye on it but it is closed and for sale. Never got a price.

It was sold a few weeks ago. New owner has it open. A few of us are going there this weekend and trying durhamtown out. Website is crawfordscg.com. New owners name is Doug.

Too funny. As a South Florida resident and one of many who misses Tellico, emphasis on GSMTR, stoked to see that Durhamtown looks like it's taking off. Better yet, parents are near Murphy this week shopping for a place to retire. If all works out, I'll be storing my FJ40 in NC in the near future.

Stayed at Crawfords a couple of weeks ago. It is back!
New owner is from Florida, and he has done a great job of cleaning it up! Durhamtown is about the same distance from Crawfords as Tellico used to be. Owner shared that he will be closing down for a couple of months over the winter, but when he opens back up late winter / early spring, he will be moving there full time. I give it my highest recommendation, whether you are RV'ing, primitive camping, or using one of his bunkhouses.

We stayed there this weekend. The new owners are really nice, and the place is still just like it was back in the day with a couple of improvements. We will definitely go back often, at least every time we go back to Durhamtown Tellico, which should be a few times a year.

Roughly the same as it was from the original Tellico, around 20 minutes or so if I'm remembering correctly. I was towing through the twisty mountain road back to camp so I didn't really pay close attention to the time.

Tellico

Is there a plan to reopen some or any of the trails or is someone opening something private up?

Just stayed here last week, it was actually pretty nice and the cabins are well taken care of along with the bathrooms, only stayed one night, everyone there was really nice and polite, started up a big fire in the fire pit just because and were all around really cool.

That's the same impression I got about them. Very nice folks. We're going back Memorial Day weekend. Can't wait!

Durhamtown Tellico
We should and will contact our state representative about the unrational demands put on a soul person that has put forth his own finances to bring a family enjoyed ORV park back to these mountains of WNC.Dating back to the original Tellico ORV that was On a temporary shut down, only to be decimated by heavy equipment far exceeding the destruction of native plants and wildlife than an off-road vehicle could!
