Team ateteight Woody XXV build
So I have been wheeling for years. Many different rigs and I have never done a build thread. So I decided to do one this go around. A little history on the rig. A friend of mine George bought this Samurai this bone stock Samurai. The first stage of it's build life it got Toyota Axles, Stock YJ springs, 35" Swampers and so on.
The next stage the rig went to 3" Deaver YJ springs and 37" Swampers
After a trip to JV George realized a 86" WB and 37's suck. I had just sold my rig and we decided from this point forward I can use it as long as I fix whatever I break and am free to do almost whatever I want as long as it's available for him and his wife to use when they want to. GAME AWN!!
So we cut the back off of it and stretched the WB to 102" It ran in this state till around 2011
In 2011 it was time to ditch the springs and link it. So it went to a 4-link rear and 3-link front with 14" Fox coil-overs. The WB also increased to 110". At this time I also swapped it over to propane as well.
In the spring of 2012 George and I decided we were going to compete with it. Due to the tire size we were stuck in the Pro Mod class. We ran the Cal-Neva series and had a great time. We had one 1st place finish and two 4th place finishes. We broke lots of parts and bent lots of tube. The rig was never built to be a comp rig, just a fun trail rig.
So this brings us to today. George and I with the help of all of our sponsors are starting a new build for the W.E.ROCK 2013 Series. We plan on re-using as many of the parts as we can to keep the cost down. So keep an ey out for updates. If you are on Facebook we have a Team Page you can "like" and follow as well.
Here are the rest of the specs on the rig.

Tube for the chassis got delivered today.
If Scott from "Rock 4X" is on board with this...so am I...
Good luck...keep us posted.
Well got up this morning and got started on the rig around 9:00. We stopped for a bit to eat and then went back to work till around 3:30. Got most of it taken apart. George and I pull the engine and axles in the morning then get started on the chassis. Here are a few pics from today.
Got a little more done today. Had a few other things to do, but found some time to get some work done.
First pulled the engine. I think the old mounts were a little worn.
Got the front cut off and the enigne pulled.
Took a short break
The way most usually saw the rig and I.
Nice little yard sale, but no luck.
Got the sub frame in place with all the link mounts. T-case mounted and spot for the battery.
It has been a couple of days since I have posted an update. I have not worked on it the last couple of days and now it's going to rain through the weekend so not much is going to get done. Engine, Trans, T-case are mounted, along with the battery box. The B pillar in the photo is there just to get an idea of how it's going to all fit. I plan on giving it some shape when the time comes.
Best of luck with WeRock next year! I'm going to try and bring the blue XJ buggy thing out to at least one werock event and see how the pro-mod class is. :smokin:
If you keep bringing mint chocolate chip ice cream cake out to events, I bet you make a lot of friends quick!
With all the rain over the last week and a half, not much got done on the rig. With the sun out this weekend it was back to work. A party on Saturday and Soccer on Sunday did manage to eat up some built time.
looks really cool!
I dig the new chassis build!
Your neighbors must be really cool or they must really hate you.:D
Thats the rule in my neighborhood too. Don't be too loud at night or too early in the morning. My neighbor is a sandrail/utv guru so he has a sweet shop at his house. Oh and no HOA really helps.:smokin:
Well the rain killed a few weekends, and I was out of town for the week of X-Mas so not much got done. Now that I have been back for a weekend it was time to get back to work.
First up my switch panel from 12Volt Guy showed up.
Checked to see where the sub was going to fit, so I could do some tube.
Also got the front tube work done along with mounting the winch.
Last night I burned in the C/O for good.
Full droop 30" to bottom of chassis
George and I tore the rig down Saturday morning to finish up all the welding. We had the axles back under it by 4:00.
Sunday we got a bunch of stuff done including a soccer game.
All the links are tight
Engine, Trans, and T-case mounted
Welded up the intermediate shaft and installed it.
Installed the front drive line
Mounted the battery
Formed a aluminum dash
Mounted the switch panel
Dropped the rear drive line of to Steve at South Bay Drive-line to get it shortened up a couple of inches. Should have it back today or tomorrow.
We were too busy doing this stuff and failed to get any photos. I'll post some up later once I get some.
Id add these (in red) in. But that's just me.
George has been over working on dash and it looks great so far.
The switch panel is from 12volt guy
The 12Volt Guy
Also got my new heavy duty Transmission shifter kit from Trail Tough. This thing is beefy compared to the stock one.
Gear oil just showed up. Make sure to check out My Lucas Oil | Online Retailer of Lucas Oil Products for all your needs
Been a while since I have updated this thread. I have been busy working on the rig and doing family things.
Lifetime Led lights came in. I bought them through Luke at Frontier 4x4. The big light is a 41.5" combo beam, and the smaller one is the 13.
Made a removable mount for the front light and mounted the big one across the top.
We also mounted up a new Trail Gear full hydro pump. I have been running the hydro assist pump for years, but when we add water to the tires it just doesn't cut it.
Cooler fits perfect.
Couple of steekers on the hood
One on the roof
Took it out for some testing on the 26th. The rig worked great. Broke one part, but it was something I was testing for a sponsor. That's why we text things.
The rig is almost completely done. Off to KOH on Weds am.
Here is a video I just found on Youtube from Thursday night at KOH. First few min is me. I'm also in it again near the 10 min mark.
