I met Jay Kopycinski on a couple of AZTTORA runs a few years back.
He did an article on my Zuk in 2011.
Rumor is my Junk got another 1/2 page in the 2017 July issue.

1987 Suzuki Samurai Trail Zuk - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine

He also did a Zuk article about ZOA back in 2006.
2006 Zukapalooza
Then this popped up on the radar recently

48* light breeze, chilly,
Highline Fire is 15 miles west of me, started Saturday afternoon, Jumped over the Mogollon Rim early evening. found the frequency for air attack, we could see the smoke and watched 4 slurry bombers circle the fire all afternoon, awesome coordination, I was impressed.
This will be the Highline fire, Burning in Perley Canyon above Bonita Creek, origin unknown at his time.
Fire is above homes and nothing is threatened at this time, fire topped the Rim and jumped the 300 rd yesterday evening. 4 medium Helitankers set up a perimeter on top of the Rim, Helitankers are working out of Blue Ridge res and a 1 million gallon bladder/tank on the Rim. Fixed wing are working out of Williams Gateway.
Freaky thing, this is exactly where the Dude fire started in 89.
They did not evacutate Bonita Creek, however the Sheriff door knocked every home in the community.
They are setting up an Level One Incident Command at Horse Camp this morning, basically the Houston Mesa Road will be a Zoo.
Got mom out of Ellison Creek early this morning. Tankers had laid a box of red lines around her comminty.
All my info is first hand from listening to Incident Command communicate with the Tankers, could not pick up the hotshots or the Helitankers.

Turn on the news this morning and all they have is which minority is shooting who in Peoria, lame.
Edit: Gila County Sheriff is investigating cause as of this am.

Solo run up at the intersection of the Highline trail and the 144 last year. It s all Manzanita scrub oak and cat claw so thick you can't walk through it. Forest Sevice had started to protect and replant some Ponderosa's All gone, again.

And this morning brings the suck, Good news is they are keeping it north of the communities. Hoping when the winds change to typical afternoon pattern, westerly, it blows back on itself. Hellsgate Fire currently in Ellison Creek starting assesments.

Winds have shifted west, If it gets over to the deep canyons like Geronimo that didn't burn in the Dude Fire, it will get real. Local guys in Red Trucks unofficially say 0 % contained.

6/13 early am
Cool morning, watched the Payson Community meeting with the Forest Service yesterday evening, mostly to hear the cause of the fire, "under Investigation". Hotshots are tight lipped about the cause so something is up.

East side of Fire has not reached Myrtle point, yet, view looking north.
A smokey Myrtle point. Myrtle point has a cool, sketchy trail that winds up the back of it with a really cool camp spot and a pristine water tank that not many use, always Turkey, Elk, Deer, Cats, Bear up in the there that are now getting smoked out. which prolly means kritters will start showing up at Meads and in the Village, will bring the huge suck if the fire gets that far East.
