Dutch trayback Samurai

Hope I type it in good English

Bought my sami about 8 years ago, bone stock!
Made a trayback of it because of all the rust

How he now stands:
Stock 1.3/trans 4.16 tcase
5cm bodylift + bigger shackles
31inch Simex lookalike tires, 33ers Blackstar cross laying in the corner ready to roll
Trayback/rollcage
And a bunch of small things

How it all started:

How the sami now is:

Have not drove it a few years because I got sick, have had cancer 3 times and because of a tumor in my lower back I'm now in a wheelchair, I now have a paraplegia.

But I want to drive it again! I'm gonna make it an automatic. Already bought a motor and gearbox, a 1.6 8v and a Vitara 3 speed.

The motor donor:

And this is how I want to drive in the sami, this is my daily driver with (I don't know how you call it in English) hand control. The big handle is the brake and the one behind it is the throttle.

I'm just going to (sort of) copy the system.

This was the last time I drove it:

How i build it:

After my first 4x4 event I had to have other tires, a lift and other t case gears.
So i did a body lift + other shackles, put bigger tyres on it and made my t case into a 4.16

But because of all the rust i cut the back end off.

After fixing up some sheetmetal we started on bending some pipes!

And after some painting.

So after a long time of rehabilitation and all that stuff, I put the sami on the truck of a friend and brought it to the workshop where I work.

And at home we pullled the 1.6 out of the Vitara

Also the cable harness is out

And already have a automatic gearbox with an fitting plate so i can put the Sami t case behind it

At work i began with the fold up pedals, this is from my daily driver

And this is how i made it

glad to see some original fab work that would definitely help to encourage other people with similar situations to keep their hobby going. Glad to hear you made it through the cancer again. Keep the pictures coming. Post video of the controls in action when you are back from the trail.

Started on pulling out the 1.3 with gearbox and wire harness

Got everything tagged

Also the dash is out with the first part of the wire harness
That will someday be replaced by an alu dash I think

The new wire harness with only the necessary things

The engine is out!

Also bought a few leaf springs so i can do RUF someday, and the new tires!

Very cool! One of my good friends is paralyzed from the waist down at the age of 16 from a motorcycle accident a year ago. He always wanted a samurai, so I've been thinking about building him one with hand controls and an auto as well. This gives me some great ideas where I could start! Keep up the good work!

Thanks! Very nice to have such friends, there are only a few of! Together with my girlfriend I have a kind of foundation, it's called Take it Laesie, in the Netherlands a paraplegia is called a dwarslaesie, so it's take it easy with a 'dwarslaesie' Take it Leasie. We have a Facebook and Insta where we post everything we do in a wheelchair, I still ski, do roadtrips with our bmw 730i with V8 in it and much more. Maybe it's nice for him to look at it, we show that actually anything is possible when your paralyzed.

This is our car:

We always drive the park and party run, that is once a year, then everybody decorates the car as crazy as possible, there is an originality price you can win, and you have to do all kinds of assignments where you can win prizes.

One of the other cars, also a bmw:

We drive on the most beautiful roads, this was in Norway

And always at the end of the day we have a campsite where it of course is a big party every evening
