those are such cool trucks. I wonder if you stripped the plow and dump bed weight if it would tow decently....

I tried to buy one about 7-8 years ago. They are geared stupid low. Even with a load of gravel in the bed it rode horrible. The rear leaf pack was like 11 inches high. The tac was broke on it but at 50mph it was singing and not exactly easy to keep in one lane, and it had under 20k miles on it. It's for sure a purpose built truck and comfort and speed were not on the list of needs when they built it.

One of those (or similar) is on my list of things to buy when I have land in the mountains a little bit of fuck you money

So in reality, I'm never going to own one but they are sweet.

Might as well go for gold. Oshkosh makes one that is 4WD and 4WS. Fully badass. They are getting older now. Might be able to score one.

2001 M1083A1 5-ton cargo truck - $3500 (Bernalillo, NM)
M1083A1, 5-ton cargo truck, not currently running. I purchased this from a gov't auction in 2017. It is simply too much truck for me to get up and running. It needs a turret cover, starter, door handles, 1 battery, and various circuit breakers. Tires hold air well, however the spare needs to be replaced. Hydraulic cab and spare tire lift work great. Several glad-hands replaced. It will need a tow and/or flatbed to be moved from its current location

I have lots of years working on their 4wd/4ws rotory snow blowers, so much fun to operate.

$32k? More like $3,200. That thing is a piece of shit hiding under all that bedliner. The Cummins swap is cool, and the vehicle itself has potential but you can see the piss poor quality of the mods and the sad condition of the thing overall. I bet the passenger is real comfortable with that turbo heating up the dog box against their leg.

Was that built by a guy out in Bend? I think I've met him and looked over another rig he's built. If that one is like the one I got to crawl all over, I wouldn't think $32k is out of line, and there is far more to it than you can see in pictures.

Of course it's possible I could be thinking of someone else who does black/gray line-X'ed old cummins motorhome conversions,

Well if that piece of shit impresses you, you need to have your head examined. I would think that for $32k it would at least have matching rims. I would also think that with that kind of investment the builder could do better than putting a bumper on a bumper or a spare hanging off the back so far it would easily be dragged off on the smallest water-break. I would also think that he could do better than that stacked mess the front leaf springs are mounted to. It would probably take another $32k just to fix all the bullshit.

That one might have been an earlier build, but I was EXTREMELY impressed with what I saw in person. I'd be really curious to know if they are in fact by the same builder.

Buddy of mines rig here in NM.

https://albuquerque.craigslist.org/c...758602853.html

1972 Unimog 404 crawler. Gas engine. Standard 6 speed with 2 speed crawl box which make's the final drive 350 to 1. Super slow! Has rear steering. This thing can get into and more importantly get out of some really sticky situations. Custom tubing. Has cage inside cab. Rear view camera. 20 gallon custom fuel tank. 8274 winch up front converted to 24 volt. Rear factory PTO driven winch. 3 new Optima yellow top deep cycle batteries. Extra parts; LOTS! Fresh head off an early Mercedes car. New Toyota truck steering box that's tapped for hydro assist. Sits on 39 in Swamper IROCS with spare. Spare sits on a military H1 tire carrier that jacks down for easy removal. It runs really well! It was also used in the film The Scorch Trials! Just don't drive it anymore! Price is firm! No tire kickers!! Trade for nice El Camino

Damn this is the perfect size bus for a conversion. Wish mine was a 9 window with a lift instead of 6.
