enclosed trailer fender modification

Yes I searched, yes I found lots of threads about drive over fenders, not what I am looking at doing.

Okay for the meat and potatoes...

I have a 18x8.5 Haulmark enclosed. With backing my buggy into it I have to suck down the front and rear with my winch to clear the door....not an issue. However, with my 42s on the rear axle trying to clear the inner fenders is an issue. I can make them fit between but they rub and the corners make me nervous on my sidewalls. The trailer is not tall enough to make drive over fenders. A friend suggested possibly removing the inner fenders and make the gap wider.

The fenders are thin and have no real structual support to the trailer. And the inside sidewall to the fender is approx 2.5" gap. So I was thinking I could take an inch out of each inner fender. But concerned I may rubbage.

Anybody read or seen this done? Thoughts

I planned on rounding the edges after widening the opening. Once past the edges, both fires still push/touch the fenders. I'd like to see air on between sidewall and fender.

Just bought some heavier load tires for it, gonna get a rim off and measure to see if I can get a shallower rim to gain more room on the inside.
