Yep.... This area is really well bolted, half the routes (IIRC there are like 700 routes) are bolted. You do rely on someone else, but they are generally replaced as needed. Even most of the trad routes here have top anchors. There are only a couple I avoid due to loose bolts.

Crazy man.

Your actual truck build is cool and all but the pics and stories of the places this truck takes you is my favorite part about this tread.

Are you still happy with the Victron equipment?

I am looking at the BMV-712 with temp sensor and the 100/30 SmartSolar controller.
There are several way cheaper options that might accomplish the same but the bluetooth "apps" and logging really have me excited.

Yes very happy. I'd like to upgrade to one of thier inverter chargers soon. I just got a second bt dongle so I can run the controller and shunt. Mine is the 710 wo/bt.

My only gripe is that you can't see the historical data without being Bluetooth connected (on mine anyway, older without built in bt and using a dongle.) I'm tempted to get a color control, for the networking. Add a wifi USB stick and any time there is wifi your data is available online.

Yeah I have the advantage of getting all that in one shot with the 712 it may be redundant with the SmartSolar data but you can't have too many gadgets can you?

The color control is super bad ass but the $500+ price tag is probably way outside the scope of my 400w RV project.

Yeah I bought mine right when they released the 712. Same with my solar controller, no BT built in.

I'm tempted by the color control..... But yeah stupid expensive.

What panels are you using? I'm pretty impressed with the LG one so far. It makes a lot of voltage even on what seems like low light days.

I haven't even started on the panels yet. I have a fair amount of room with a 36' TT but I am unsure about shading from the A/C vent covers etc.
I know I have room for 4x 100w panels with no issues but in the rear I have room for two 300w panels as well I think.
I am really trying to lock down on the controls because they have the most options/choices/styles.
Combined with a Multiplus and a Winston 400ah battery I could potentially go off grid with limited A/C use and no generator or run a 1000w inverter gen alongside the Multiplus to run the a/c and still not be shore power bound.

That is a new prospect for me as I really never thought it possible off of solar alone but I am seeing now that is possible with the right equipment/install.

Side note, the used market for Victron equipment seems to do very well. You might be able to flip your gear and upgrade for a little out of cost.

How are the AGM's working out? I am likely going to go with flooded GC2's this go around due to cost but I am worried about weight and venting.

I think for my needs at this point pair of them will be adequate for the loads I have planned but running the 2/3000w multiplus will require stepping up to a lithium bank with a higher C rating.

That plan at the moment is a Winston/Thundersky 400ah bank and 123SmartBMS.

So far so good, I'd love to go lithium, and loose the weight, but the price was right.

OK I need some input guys!

What spares would you carry?

1)Daily/US woods

2)Mexico and South

I currently have Fluids: 2gal oil, 1 gal coolant, 2qt ATF, Anti gel, and a serp belt. What else should be added. Fuel filters are obvious, but what are other common failure prone parts that would be hard to find?

New awnings is Good! Fit and finish seems better than the old one. And its much larger.

But..... I need a bigger solar controller. Mine maxes out far too easily in the summer sun. 15A charging rate. Anyone want a nearly new Victron 75|15? It would be good for a 200W system. 220w is its max useable, it throttles back after that.

Good weekend none the less.

I would think any sensor that could disable injection.
The 7.3 had a cam position sensor that would kill the engine, limp home is one thing but dead engine is no bueno. Has the FICM been upgraded?

Yeah I am not sure there are any like that on the 6.4. Fuel pressure maybe? FCIM is a completely different animal than a 7.3

I have a code reader to clear codes as needed.....

The wheels have rubbed on the back of the fender wells at certain turn angles. Bushwacker cut out flares remove about 2.5" of fender right there. After install I am not super sold on them, I may try to wrap them back to the grey color, but we will see. May just need to get dirty

Remove fender liner and OE over fenders and mark out cut.

Ruin perfectly good fender.

Beat back into fender ish shape (it all gets covered, dont worry!)

Hose liberally with black spray paint in your choice of brand flavor.

Test fit flare, find it needs massaging, massage, then drill a bunch more holes in an already ruined fender.

Now reinstall the fender liner per the Bushwacker instructions, "reinstall" They fail to mention that it wont fit since we just moved the back of the arch back 3", so bolt the front bits in place, since they fit then get out the leather gloves and plubming torch. Melt fender liner until you can convince it to get longer and kinda fit again.....

Now install the flare.

Much wider.

Now like I said, not sure I am sold, maybe its the black, or the size, but it makes the wheels look smaller (larger opening?) and the wheels are pretty tucked inside the fender now. (I like flush....) But being wider they may keep my mirrors cleaner which could be nice.

Stopped to pull neighbor out of the ditch.... And continued with projects.

Ran Air lines for the front bags into the cab, flex sheathing used, and fuel tubing slipped over where it passes thru sheetmetal.

Big ass relay added in the compressor power line. Plan is to use running lights to trigger it, yeah a little ghetto, but I have ZERo desire to run a ignition switched line front to back now. I always drive with lights on, so compressor should have power any time engine is running.

Re did all the plumbing on the compressor, no wonder it leaked down over night, factory fittings were all pretty loose. Removed the regulator, added a T for the outlet to the bag controls.

And all ran out the floor, including a new drain fitting!

Need to run the feed to the cab, and hook the bags to the controls, and get the interior back together.... Tonight....

Bags are plumbed..... But one of the switches itself is leaking, thru the body..... Grrrr it appears it's thru the fill side at least, so it should just empty the compressor.... Fingers crossed.

Ghetto fabulous drain valve. But easy to dump compressor often is a good thing!

Also got my new radio installed. Kinda pissed..... GPS wont lock with it under the A pillar. They updated the GPS chipset in the newer model..... I bought cheap and used.... grrrr. Hope I can get it to work.

Radio body tucked away.

Head unit where it cant see the sky apparently.....

Yep, ham. APRS, automatic packet reporting system. Ie use ham to send gps coordinates while I drive. Family can track me.

But good news is, I left the radio on all day and it found some satellites!
