If you do not, great. Go for it.
It's a 3 year old $35k truck, no, I'm not going to put a mismatched shell on it

If you and 1 buddy can't load/unload a 5.5' long shell without fucking it up, I feel bad for you.

This is the wife's truck, we looked at suv's, but the truck with a shell was the same price and will work better. I have a 97 F350 with a 8' bed for fire wood and truck parts.

So for a basic shell like pictured above, with a few add ons, it's over $3k I'm having a hard time justifying it, obviously. Especially since it's a 3 week wait and we are supposed to be getting rain for the next 3 weeks.

Leaning towards picking up a cheap roll up cover and just watching for a used one in gray.

I was never against used, just couldn't find anything.

A buddy of mine has the most basic Leer on a '14 F150. He paid $800 new, so I figured I could get what I want for under $2k, but I guess that's not the case.

Good lawd... I paid $2100 (w/ tax) for a brand new top of the line Leer - with every option outside of the ceiling storage...

Are you serious?!?! I'm about to buy a used, mismatched shell for my 150 for 500. If a new leer can be had for 800, I'll buy new.

Everything I can find says that prices are closer to 2500 or so...

I bought a used one for my super duty. It was surprisingly difficult to find one for a long bed.

Anyways I bought the cap, 80 grit sandpaper, a quart of rustoleum, some thinner and a HF sprayer. Painting it was easy and it matches fine. My truck is black though so no mixing colors or anything.

I have like 250 bucks in to it.

Word thing about it though it's that the glass pops open when I'm towing my trailer. But I don't even have to latch it just driving around

It's very basic, like it has a frame rear glass with 2 t handles. Also, I've read about problems with Leer. But I don't know, he likes his.

As mentioned, get a topper with Windoors.

And never buy one new. Instead, find a used truck on a dealers lot with the color topper you want. They’re always willing to sell just the topper, because the huge majority of people don’t want one.

I bought my 14 ram 2500 new, and was able to scrore a 1 year old topper off an identical colored used ram 1500 from a dealer. Think I paid 400. They were happy to sell it, because they could lower the trucks price and get more customers looking at it.

I tried that and was denied.

I'm not sure what to do, it sucks not having the shell in the middle of winter. We bought a neat roll up cover used to help buy time to find a used shell., but it leaks at the corners and the room is half of what we want.

I found a place that has a snug top in stock in our configuration up in Oregon, so no sales tax. But it doesn't have all the options we want and it's a 4 hour drive one way.
