How can I find GCWR for 89 F250?

1989 F-250 7.3 5 spd, reg cab 4x4, 3.55s axle code 39

Trying to rent a u-haul car trailer. Need to show tow capacity. Manual shows 3 options based on GCWR. Unfortunately, my doors have been replaced so I can't just look at the data sticker. And my google fu is failing me. Called my guy at the local dealership and he just laughed. A lot.

Any ideas? I see talk about old tow reference manuals, but haven't found any online that go back that far.

If uhaul won’t rent you a car hauler to tow with a F250 you should kill them all and buy a F550

1- manufacturer's GCWR is a pretend number that doesn't really matter.

2- tell them you are towing a Civic

I'm hoping for something to actually show her. "Because we're going to check anyways." And she's just doing her job. They're the only uhaul around, and it's actually at the local electronics repair shop. I guess they took uhaul as a side gig when TV repair became nonexistent. She doesn't know much about towing

Go www.uhaul.com and rent the trailer online and just show up to hook up & leave.

I went thru a simular runaround looking for a GCVWR for my 90 K2500. GVWR is easy to find (mine was on the door post) but it seems that they didn't publish GCVWR before the internet. For Uhaul purposes just tell them it a newer model truck that has a listed GCVWR.

From the factory manual: 13,000 lb. This is for 85, but should be the same for an 89. 5-6k light weight on the truck, gives 7-8k towing capacity which I'd expect to be good enough for the typical U-haul car trailer.

85 = 6.9
89 = 7.3

85 = T-19
87 = ZF-5

Okay Mr. Obvious, thank you for the correction. Do you have any documentation that indicates that the GCWR is different? I didn't say the trucks were exactly the same, I said GCWR should be the same. None of those change 1st gear ratio or power significantly and that appears to be what Ford based ratings on.

BTW, you're wrong on the axles - F250HD (86/8800 GVW) & F350 used a Dana 70 up to 85, not a 60. Every idi pickup would have been a D70 if it was prior to the 10.25. Van chassis may have had a 60 rear in some models, can't speak definitively to how they were equipped.

On my 87 F350 there's a tag on the drivers side door jamb that shows all of the axle ratings as well as payload, GVWR, etc.

IDI T-19s had a 5.11 first gear
And S-42 ZF-5s had either 5.72 or 4.14 depending on whether they were the close or wide ratio models soooo

Good catch on the axle being 70 vs 60. My mistake. Fixed it for future readers.

Why not share your GVWR, engine, trans and axle ratios for comparison?

The data sticker isn't on the doors, it's in the drivers door jamb.

Not always, my 86 F350 had it on the door, as well as LOTS of older trucks. I have no idea why they would ever do that, the driver door is likely to be replaced sometime in the trucks life. And yes, the P.O. of my truck replaced the door when he had it painted. Thankfully he gave me the old door with it so I had the sticker.

Last time I rented a Uhaul trailer, what they want to know the hitch rating.

GCWR depends on too many options on the truck... things the uhaul guys are incapable of understanding. IMO, invent a semi-realistic number that makes them happy.
