8.1 with supercharger ?

Would you buy a used 8.1L with a supercharger? As an occasional tow vehicle?

Seems the 8.1 doesnít have a lot of fans, but the Whipple sounds like fun!

https://sacramento.craigslist.org/ct...959230928.html

A 2003 with 124k miles for $16k.

Anybody have one, how is engine longevity. This would be used for maybe 5k miles a year. What is fuel economy like, unloaded and towing 8k?

I used one to tow my old race truck 6k lbs total with trailer. I averaged 6 mpg. No whipple but crap.mileage. v10 superduty that replaced it did about 10mpg and imo towed better.

But yes the whipple does sound like fun.

I like my 8.1 Suburban and have no complaints, but for $16k for a 16 year old truck I would just buy a diesel.

For 16K nope. Besides, body lift, what looks like 2 stereos plumbed in and whatever other electrical gremlins are there. I'm kinda surprised it doesn't have a lightbar over the windsheild.

There was an identical truck for sale near me, well except for the SC and gay lift, for ~$9k.

I actually took a pic of the for sale sign, pm me if you are interested.

Whipple used their small charger on 8.1s to get boost quick without risking the cast pistons and crank. They're very limited in power potential for such a large displacement. 496ci that can't top 600hp is weak.

I had one of those till last year. I know what the HVAC is because I loved that setup. What I'm saying is if you look like 1" above the cup holders is another stereo setup. Its not something that should be there, it should be a pocket.

Car stereo and HVAC across from the steering wheel.

Some other stereo bits. below the HVAC and Stereo is hidden behind the steering wheel.

It may be for the rear audio. Most of the aftermarket decks get rid of the rear sound.

Not a fan of the gay lift, price is 2 or 3k too high for it. Was really wondering does the SC make them die an early death, could one expect 200k miles out of the engine?

The fuel mileage does scare me, Iíll most likely get a standard 6.0. Gotta sell my Tacoma first.

These guys build the 8.1's, and they can make some big power. The biggest note is the pistons cant take over 5 pounds of booost.
