My daughters are 7, 5 and 22 months. They can't wait to hit the trails in the new rig. Heck, my oldest picked out my seats.

They're tiny babies for a year. They're small toddlers for another year. By the time they're two, they can spend time in the shop with you.

My daughters have their own welding hoods and like to watch for "the green light". I was working on handrail side jobs last night, and they were both sitting on little stools watching. They've welded and cut with my help, but it's still a little hot for them.

It doesn't mean the end of your "life as you knew it". Kids are a major adjustment, but you can still fit in your hobbies...you just have to radically adjust your expectations. You can't bang out a rig in 2 months. It might take 1.5 years. In 1.5 years, your kids' neck will be strong enough to ride in your buggy and enjoy it!

Look at mtbrjon; his daughter helped him build his rig, and now she's his spotter.

I've only gotten into wheelin' seriously since I've had kids, but I appreciate just how family friendly it actually is.

My kids are 10 and 13. Both of them help me build. They also have they're own gloves and welding helmets. Sometimes when I'm in the garage building, they'll watch TV or play their Nintendo DS's while sitting in the seats of my FToy. They grow up fast and will enjoy the build with you. Try to keep it if you can.
